Kind of thinking about a 7 string

That said, I would prefer a 26.5” scale length for them, because the low B/.59 can get a little loose and I have to watch my picking hand to not bang it out of tune for that initial hit. That’s exactly why I’m lookin’ towards Solar for my next one.

For me that point is part of the compromise I feel I’m making any time I play a 7 string.

I hate the tone and timbre of the high B and E on anything longer than 25.5”, but I hate the tone/timbre/feel of the low B on anything shorter than 26”.

So I always have to compromise one way or the other.

I totally believe you about it sounding heavier. I think tension from other strings can make a difference. With basses I think the low E on a 4 string always sounds better than the low E on a 5 string. I’m guessing something similar happens with guitars.

7 strings definitely have their place, but there are times I think some players might be better served with a baritone

I've tried the whole 'down tune a 6 string' thing and it was absolutely not the same. Had an amazing Keith Merrow KM6 sig Schecter that I otherwise loved. Tried thicker strings, messed with the gauges a fair bit, and finally gave up - just never captured that feel. And, as one might expect, it wasn't even remotely close to playing a KM7 - like @DrewJD82 said, the feel is huge and if I ain't feeling it, I ain't playing it. :rofl

That’s something I never thought about, how the B and E would sound on a longer scale….damn. Maybe I’ll just go multiscale for my next 7!
