We obviously don't know what Line6 has planned, I just know we are seeing a generation of guitar players used to plugins and laptops. A lot of them don't seem to have ever played a real amp. They are used to digital everything at this point.

To me, the benefit of the Kemper head and rack units is you can access the controls on the same level you would a tube amp. But if this next batch of players have never even gigged that way, they won't really know any different. I imagine all these companies would love to have (1) product to invest in and develop as opposed to 3-5. But again, I'm no expert.
I agree we don't know what Line 6 has planned. They have always had a rack version, but as you say, maybe this is the end for that form factor. I certainly hope not.

I generally use it because it is the most road worthy format.

As for the knob layout being similar to a tube amp rig, I think that this has always been Kemper's niche. It's easy to understand if you come from a tube amp rig. A set of efx before, an amp, a set of efx after, and a cab.

I do think that with the state of technology as it is now, more and more guitar players will be using digital devices instead of tube amp rigs. For me, it was weight and setup time when I switched. Now, it is flexibility and capabilities as well as automation. I see more and more digital devices at gigs, but still think that traditional tube amp rigs are still more popular.... for now.
