That represents a sharp downturn in Kemper’s sales. They used to be at the top of those popularity charts. Now, especially in the US, they are far down the list. They are not dead, but the trend is not good for Kemper.

Of course there are variables with releasing updates etc effecting sales at a given time.

Yeah and if you sort by popularity (usually active searches and tracked links, not sure on Thomann) Kemper player is down there after the H&K AmpMan, which I didn’t even know existed. Anecdotally I know of four people that dumped their toaster for either a Tonex One or Nano Cortex plus pedals recently.
The downward trend for Kemper in sales popularity lists has been consistent for the last several years. They aren't just far down the list today because somebody had a firmware update yesterday.

For sure. But it wouldn't be surprising if Kemper sales decline over time, after perhaps a profiling 2.0 release boost.
Can they offer meaningful software updates, new features, to remain competitive in the next 5-10 years? I don't know. Not too confident considering what people say about the "new" hardware.
Perhaps CK has a plan for this. But it wouldn't blow my mind if Kemper goes the way of the access virus.

How so? People still buy socks. But there's very little innovation or product development going on in the land of socks. Sock factories are just churning out the same old designs, and maybe putting a slightly different heel angle in there to antagonise the sock purists.
Kemper is not dead, but their popularity, no matter how you measure it, has suffered in recent years.
The bottom line is they lack the options their competitors have to improve their standing in the market. Every other modeler can easily add new features in firmware updates or come out with a next gen product. Kemper does not have those options.
Their design is basically unchangeable, so they are limited to only minor updates in their firmware (which usually take years to develop) and they will never have a next gen product.
