FYI, Kemper's patent has expired anyway.
Thanks for that. Hadn't considered that possibility. According to some searches, it appears the patent expired June 15, 2022.
And easily invalidated. They patented the tech that they had, not a generic idea which would have failed to hold up. The newer capture tech is very different from what Kemper did and wasn't practical if even possible when the Kemper was developed.
Having done this many times, I can tell you that the patent lawyer (a good one anyway) will push you to patent the broadest idea as this provides the most value to the company and the best protection.

As the patent is expired, it is a good explanation as to why we have seen so many others enter the fray.

I don't think there is any argument on this thread that Kemper should have done more to maintain their lead in technology and not rely on the patent to protect them forever. I believe the product was introduced in 2011. Plenty of time to prepare for the competition set to be cut loose in 2022 H2.

So it seems that capture tech is open for anyone to include in their product now. I always argue that competition is good for the consumer, but not always for a specific company.

I am quite interested to see what kind of results the Stadium gets and how tweakable the capture is.

We actually have a request in for some assistance with Xenforo because we attempted to put it in the Rants thread but for some reason it’s not even letting us mods reply to the thread once it’s been put there. Apparently Xenforo runs like a PC; at any given moment you’ll find something fucked up or non-functioning due to work done behind the scenes.

We should crowdfund the plugin that allows for FB style 2-way blocking, so when we ignore someone, they don’t see your posts either.

Cheers! Do you still visit tgp? I did today and it was a mistake 😅. I don't post videos on message boards anymore but somebody else did.... entertaining I guess?

For sure I swing over there on occasion to mix it up. Different group of people will have different interests and opinions. I don't get myself worked up about much and try not to kick too many hornets nests.

LOL I think Kemper sounds better than the reference IMO

Another thing that one could wish to improve with the new profiling is the ability to capture multiple distorting stages.

There's been talk of so-called "cocked wah". Here's where the effect comes from, in my experience: take an amp and heavily distort the preamp. Then start introducing power amp distortion.

It won't happen in every case, but in many you'll find a point where the Kemper goes "quack" and starts to feel and sound like a crybaby. I've had this happen with plenty of amps.

If I recall correctly, Kemper line from the mods before was that hardly anybody uses tones which utilize such a signal chain/amp settings, if this concerns preamp and power amp gain.

But, being a human being, and having tastes of my own, I happen to like some tones of this kind. It is, at times, a very fine balance between preamp and power amp gain to find the sweet spot for me, depending on the amp. And it's hard to predict where exactly Kemper begins quacking out.

For example with my orange, this happened before the point that I consider the sweet spot for my taste.

If this is improved, it will be welcome, additionally to general accuracy.

And that would also improve capturing chains with distorting pedals (when you also have other distorting stages), potentially including pedal stacking. So it's not only about preamp and power amp distortion.

I suspect this won't work if the new profiling is just a more sophisticated EQ match, but it may be more than that.

Well, if they’re smart, the on-computer profiling is also some sort of machine learning, to get a more advanced/nuanced capture to account for stuff like this.
But Christoph Kemper seems like the kind of guy who invites others to smell his fart, so who knows.
