Id argue not recently. Didn't they say USB audio would never be a thing on the Kemper or that it wasn't possible? And then recently with the levels, specifying what was included in each and then a few months later changing it after people paid?

I suspect that when they release the new profiling, there will be a deafening chorus of “wtf, it sounds exactly the same”. They want to get some suckers to buy before the reveal.

That'd harm them more than the amount of profit they could generate through such a stunt.

Kemper was not designed for USB audio and frankly I think it's a miracle they added it after the fact. Hell, Kemper wasn't even designed to have a USB connection to computers. Originally you were supposed to do firmware updates and load profiles via USB stick. Same thing with remote control via iOS.

To me that was a lot of creative engineering by the Kemper developers using whatever hardware was in the device to try and expand functionality, which is much different from designing a piece of hardware with full functionality that is locked behind a paywall.

My original thought was, they have updated hardware with better processing that can handle more effects as well as a newer higher fidelity profiling. And that new hardware would likely have some runway for additional development and growth over the next several years. But because they introduced paid Player tiers after releasing the hardware, I don't 100% take their word as is currently.

Why is that?

Me: I see no ill intend whatsoever in that, nor any dishonesty. Maybe it’s bad business call…idnk.
In fact, shortly after release CK was even open on their forum that the hardware was more capable, and that they were debating the option for paid upgrades.
Their line of thought seems to be: we go out of business if we sell our full development efforts at that lvl1 price, but we do want to offer the full enchilada.
Personally, I totally get that, I even think it’s better for customers cause you deliver to different customer groups with one piece of hardware…that’s cost reduction! I mean..when we buy a DAW, all seem totally fine to pay for tiers, apparently when there is hardware attached to it, not so much.

…but even if you think that’s a stupid decision, it shouldn’t be confused with dishonesty, that’s something different then a business offer/decision you don’t like.

It must've been. You can't just add audio interface functionality to something not exactly supporting it from the start.
And it also must've been designed to be connected to computers because USB-B connections are pretty much exclusively used on USB clients.

Those boxes haven't even been updated.

He's certainly nice. But he is the originator of only posting threads of his own videos on forums and in no other threads. Edited for he did also post the thread where he asked people to join his FB group because forums are toxic. No videos in that thread iirc?
