Kemper Profiler MK 2

Just when I thought this thread was dead 😀
It's a perpetuum mobile between people who have actually used a kemper in the last 3 years and loved it and those who don't. It's a bit like Trump and Musk, it keeps spinning and spinning until *booom

Not to my ears, and I have them side by side.
And in 10 years of profiling my own amps…they always popped out great.
And 15 years of YT blind tests where people can’t tell A from B…those “eartests” made the mark also.

So “simply fails audible” can’t possibly be true in all cases.
Maybe certain amps, idnk. And sure there’s vids where it is audible, but that’s also the case for QC, and for both 10 others where no one can tell amp from capture by ear.
Well I also have 10 years of profiling my own amps with a Kemper, and basically every other available option, and I'm pretty confident in my ability to get the most out of a Kemper, and where it falls short. So it's just one word against another at this point. All we can deduce is it falls short for me, but it's fine for you.

Try making models of like, 20 amps on each platform and you'll get a sense of which ones struggle most. I've had plenty of acceptible results from a Kemper but that doesn't mean its not completely lagging behind the rest.

I actually think it's a worthy trade off if the captures are significantly better. Not sure what it means by connected to Rig Manager though - is that only via USB or Wifi/ethernet/mobile too?

"...the new profiling is coming soon (...) It is only supported on the MKII series, including the Player, and it will only work if you control the profiling process via Rig Manage (Windows or MacOS) otherwise conventional profiles will be created on the MKII as well."

We'll see how this actually works once MKII firmware is out, but from the sound of it, MKII Kemper's are oflloading processing to the computer for these new "high quality" captures.

They say RM only applies to Profiling with the Player. But who knows, or cares at this point anyways? Let it be launched and we'll see and hear.

I think you're being too kind tbh Ed.

Agreed but all the items you listed are significantly cheaper and not necessarily meant to be "in the box" ready.

But you could view this as a positive solely because it means maybe it will bypass the Kempers dates profiling and actually be better? I mean if it is as good as NAM. BIG IF. and you could load it on to something like a Kemper stage with all the effects and switching.......I think that would be pretty ideal
Quad Cortex is more expensive

Kemper is like anything else, right hands, wrong hands, good ears, bad ears. Just like a real amp you can set it to sound very good or very bad.
I've never worried about accuracy as I've never owned great amps, so my point of reference, is can it sound good and give me what I want for the sound in my head. All the top dogs get me 90% there.

Why would they do that?
Because if they can’t win on accuracy or sound quality, maybe ease of use across different applications would work in its favour.

NAM and ToneX were the nail in the coffin for Kemper for me. Not only do they sound much better, but the convenience of being able to run them as a plugin meant that there is no situation where a Kemper made any sense for me.

Being forced to be connected to the Rig Manager could also mean that you'd have to be connected to the web for some cloud based profile creation (just as you have to to create NAM captures). The hardware would only serve to deliver measuring noises and capture them, the rest would have to be computed somewhere else.

Exactly! And the nature of a forum that different perspectives end up in the same thread ;)
This just misses the point being discussed though.

As does this.
