Kemper Profiler MK 2

After reading the release notes for the 13.0 Beta, it seems the new units are pretty much just a Kemper MkII Turbo style upgrade. The OG Kempers seem to run 99% of the new features via new software. Not seeing any reason to upgrade to Mk II unless you really need a black faceplate.
That beta doesn't have all the features touted. Those won't come until summer where I think you'll see a bigger divide between OG and Mkii

I would have waited until the new profile algo was out then. I doubt it'll be out in a week or two and you had a Kemper recently

Yeah but it'll still be fun to check out the Player. I've had my eye on one for several months and this kind of pushed me over the edge.

It may end up like the HX Stomp where I drag it out every now and again to mess around with and it's a fun change of pace to the Fractal but then I pack it away and go back to the Axe FX lol.

Or there could be a couple limitations that drive me nuts out of the gate and it gets returned in a week.

I’m sure they could improve it with new components without going into a full blown new model.,
Well I installed in the Player and while I’m not complaining about and extra few utility fx I certainly wouldn’t feel the need to update to the new hardware like I did from AxFx Ultra to 2.
But I might just (aside the obvious convenience) be tired of digi boxes

That means you will need to have a secondary device for that editor with you at all times.
not me…I can’t remember ever needing to anything that wasn’t 1 or 2 clicks away at a gig..and 90% I was from the knobs on the front.
Having gigged the kpp a few times, the only thing I used my phone for was the global EQ, which was easy enough from my phone.

UI from unit seems to be the only thing set in stone imho.

Fwiw, if anything, I always really, really liked the Kemper UI. Endless pots with proper readouts, most important parameters instantly accessible - just what my doctor ordered, possibly still only beaten by the QC UI, but the click-to-select thing turned me off a bit.
If all you mainly want is amp sounds and quick adjustment options of those amp sounds, the KPA is just great.
Add to this that with their parameter lock functions they've at least done something to adress some issues of the live playing crowd.

You sure? I don’t read into it that the new efx slots are going to OG units, new profiling won’t go there either

You've still never used one, right?

How often am I going to repeat that I had a III (and a II briefly some time before) at home for a week or so? And no, I didn't get much into the onboard UI details. Simply because it just wasn't intuitive at all. Whereas the KPA is.

Agree.
Btw, someone on the KPA forum suggested that the 7 extra efx slots are global pedals…should be right up your ally if true!
I couldn’t find any reference to it on their site though…

I think QC is also great..sure, one click always…but all blocks are right there in your face, so its hardly ever one more..plus..you never have select a parameter after, cause they are all tied to the switch encoders.

Most people I know with them have shed loads of sims they haven’t even bothered adding because they wouldn’t use them and none of them use there Kempers to play live just for home studio use.
They do excel at that even after all these years since release.
The new one will definitely drive the used market prices down IMO.

Without summoning you know who into the discussion, IMO guitar cab IR’s should be 200ms as a minimum and 500ms is even better. That’s not to say that every IR in every recording setup would benefit from it, but there’s usually some residual room resonance and tone in the low end that decays longer. A very well treated room might resonate for 200ms (but not much lower), but to get things that short in the low end is not easy.

Whatever the Kemper MKI was doing to IR’s was absolutely brutal, I just used it as amp DI and loaded IR’s externally. Longer IR’s is a sensible improvement on their part.

THAT SCREEN THO.

If that was at least an option, it'd be great.

However, tbh, right now I shouldn't think about a Kemper at all. I'm just extremely happy with my live setup and for home recording duties there's more great options than to poke a stick at.
I may however look out for used MKIs in the future. When I had a Kemper at my place for a few days, I remember to enjoy some MBritt profiles more than anything I've ever used before, absolutely instant gratification for me. And I don't give a toss whether they only null by -30dB, I just loved them.
