Is there any point in getting a Boss SDE delay if I have a DD-500 already?

The SDE EVH has routing and outputs for a W-D-W configuration, which is what differentiates it from the standard SDE-3000. Overall though, I think the concept for the SDE units is similar to what BOSS has done with the DM101 and RE202, which is delay pedals that are much more focused in what they do and less about versatility, which is where the DD500 gets the upper hand.

Oh, and those fucked up 1/8' TRS MIDI jacks...

I also think they are a steal on the used market. Too many damn great delay pedals out there.

Using the W/D/W (or just W/D) configuration for multiple amps is cool as they have sorted out a lot of the
potential ground loop and phasing issues internally. Super fun delay. To me. :idk

Hmm… it’s been many years since I had a DD-500 so I’ve never compared them side-by-side, but I do think the SDE is a bit of a different flavor of digital delay. Maybe very subtle.

The biggest difference is the workflow and control interface, so probably whichever style fits you best. I love having instant access to time/mix/feedback/mod at all times from dedicated controls on the SDE. Makes it super simple to tweak on the fly at gigs
 
I tend to prefer really distinct character delays over jack of all trades delays, so just spouting my own preference here I suppose.

Give me 10 different delays that each do a very unique thing versus one that tries to do them all.

I also don't enjoy eating at Buffets that have 100 different things all heatlamped into submission either. :idk
 
There aren't any videos of the two being compared. Closest I got was @2112 's video comparing the SDE to the Strymon Dig... and honestly... there wasn't a TON in the tonal differences.... it was really about workflow.... and the thing I love the most about the DD500 is being able to bend down and change the tempo and note sub-division very quickly. SDE looked like an ache of le ball.
