Is the tone knob overrated?

On the the new lap steel the travel in the tone knob is like a 1/4 of a normal one and it’s perfect for that wah thing.

I think I remember reading that they did it like that deliberately, so you could do all kinda cool swell tricks rather than only using it for finetunings.

Yes that is what it said. I just couldn’t understand what it meant to I had it. It is an insanely cool feature.
And I’d never thought I’d love the levers as I do either.

These are actually the main reason why I'd like such a guitar (I might be adding their bridge to one of mine in case I can't afford the full deal). I always dreamt about getting a pedal steel one day, even looked around for a while, but it has just not been inside any practical realm. They're very expensive, kinda tough to maintain, not easy to transport and, most of all, pretty hard to learn - so all of that isn't a great idea for the remaining years of my "career".
But the Multibender, while certainly not rendering things into a pedal steel, is adressing most of these issues. I've been fooling around with them here and there and could instantly get some neat results out of things. A really excellent idea.

It’s great alternative to slanting the bar.

For me it seems to depend on the guitar and the tone I am going for. I have some guitars that I never touch the tone knob on. I have others that I use it a lot on.
