Seriously though, you know which one of my amps sounds the best at really low volumes? Twin Reverb. Sounds full and bold, even at low volumes. Small amps are great too, love them, but they don't sound as good at low volume. Only until you start to dial them up do they really start to come alive, but it's loud at that point. A modeler like a Helix into a powered speaker is good too, there's a lot of range and flexibility there... and sounds great with headphones.
I would rather play unplugged than headphones myself. I second a twin turned down. My Diezel actually works well at low volume but it’s a tad large.Seriously though, you know which one of my amps sounds the best at really low volumes? Twin Reverb. Yep, I'm the only serious guy around here. Don't listen to those other schlubs!Thank you for the serious response. I read that before, it had to do with a twin being clean and staying clean from low to high volumes?
He is joking with you.@likitlikeyoulikeit i reported you. It is now to the point of bullying. Thankfully it’s not the gear page where you get banned right away :) but please let’s just ignore each other or please ignore this thread if it gets you this emotional.
Not anymore. I'm cool. Report away.He is joking with you.
Oh, he's alright. He's just passionate.@likitlikeyoulikeit i reported you. It is now to the point of bullying. Thankfully it’s not the gear page where you get banned right away :) but please let’s just ignore each other or please ignore this thread if it gets you this emotional.

I am a bit hard to ignore I suppose.....must be my sugar lumps.I thought you had him on ignore…
He couldn’t resist lookingI thought you had him on ignore…
If you have good studio monitors, a modeler played through those monitors will sound better at really low volume. It’s pathetic. At lower volumes the dynamic of a small analog amp will be much better than a modeller regardless of what sound you setup.

Yeah, it's the way the circuit is designed. Stays clean and the bass range is good.

A real amp with 12" speaker, tube or solid state, only sounds "better" when it is a bit louder. The larger speaker has more bass frequencies and more projection. So even if you think its the same level as the monitors, it is actually louder because of bass and projection.
I believe if the volume scale is calibrated at the level "will not annoy anyone else in the house", studio monitors will always be best. But.. it might be possible to play a tube amp at the same perceived level (to you) and have it sound better, while everyone else in the house will notice its louder.
We like to have fun around here, that's not going to change. Sometimes it may come off as childish or annoying, or possibly taken in the wrong way -- but it's all in good spirit.Let him hang out at the water cooler. On the other hand, I am used to children. Just didn’t expect that childish behavior on this forum.
