Is it realistic to have a tube amp at home?

Seriously though, you know which one of my amps sounds the best at really low volumes? Twin Reverb. Sounds full and bold, even at low volumes. Small amps are great too, love them, but they don't sound as good at low volume. Only until you start to dial them up do they really start to come alive, but it's loud at that point. A modeler like a Helix into a powered speaker is good too, there's a lot of range and flexibility there... and sounds great with headphones.

Thank you for the serious response. I read that before, it had to do with a twin being clean and staying clean from low to high volumes?

I would rather play unplugged than headphones myself. I second a twin turned down. My Diezel actually works well at low volume but it’s a tad large.

Yep, I'm the only serious guy around here. Don't listen to those other schlubs!

Yeah, it's the way the circuit is designed. Stays clean and the bass range is good.

It’s pathetic. At lower volumes the dynamic of a small analog amp will be much better than a modeller regardless of what sound you setup.
If you have good studio monitors, a modeler played through those monitors will sound better at really low volume.

A real amp with 12" speaker, tube or solid state, only sounds "better" when it is a bit louder. The larger speaker has more bass frequencies and more projection. So even if you think its the same level as the monitors, it is actually louder because of bass and projection.

I believe if the volume scale is calibrated at the level "will not annoy anyone else in the house", studio monitors will always be best. But.. it might be possible to play a tube amp at the same perceived level (to you) and have it sound better, while everyone else in the house will notice its louder.

Interesting. I am thinking more in Dbs. For example, around 70 db I think would be fine in the living room. Around 80 would be if I am alone. But I am looking at speaking volume.
