iPad Amp Sims

What is your favorite iPad amp sim, and what genre do you play? I'm going to test playing ToneX later tonight, but I'm open to suggestions. The last time I tried an iOS amp was over 5 years ago or so and it was fucking terrible lol, bees in a can.

God this question brings back memories. Positive Grid Bias was my absolute fuckin jam back when I didn’t know anything about setting up an amp sim on my computer. (I distinctly remember trying LePou stuff and thinking it was shit, but my dumbass didn’t realize I needed a cab sim.) I found a Bias preset from Bulb (I think) and to me, that was the sound. Listening back to some of the stuff I recorded with that setup, I’m embarrassed 😂

Nowadays, I’d say NAMxt.

LePou brings back nightmares because that's the era I started with amp sims, on my shitty underpowered dell laptop, like you not knowing shit about it. It did get me going for free though and that was sick. Eventually I got back into it with the TSE x50, Mercuriall, then NDSP/Helix Native. What a journey lol

I also have NAMxt on my phone. Works well and now when I don’t have any small audio interface I just use my Stomp around the house as interface plus cabs/fx. Tempted to try Gigfast Lite now on sale. Also they do universal apps so buy once and you get it for iPad, iPhone and Mac.

TONEX app is not updated for more than a year, crashes a lot and feels generally trashy to me.

And the last I tried, I couldn't find a way to get personal and purchased captures on it, unless they were on Tone Net. It could use some attention for sure!

I am a big fan of Tonex for some things, but it definitely has some major warts as well.

Yeah I just tried to look up a capture and got immediately frustrated, I think you need a computer to add captures to your account or something. Nahhhh this is for couch playing I’m not about to do all that.

Same here. I think I still have some captures of modelers uploaded there since I wanted them on my phone…

I hope that with Helix Stadium coming soon, and probably an ios editor, we will eventually get a new Stadium Native that works on ios.

NamXT and Gigfast lite are made by the same company. The only advantage to gigfast is it has amps built in already. If you just want to load external NAM files NamXT is cheaper (and doesn’t have Ui features that won’t be used taking up screen real estate)
