IK Multimedia TONEX Plug

This is pretty cool. I’m not knowledgeable at all when it comes to how sound quality scales from the OG Tonex to those smaller units. It’s interesting that IK states the quality is the same. If that’s truly the case (and the quality of the captures is not scaled down, for lack of a better term), then sweet.

I believe in comparisons it's been shown that the quality with the big one vs the Tonex One is the same (and the latter actually has slightly better latency). I'd imagine it's the same with the iOS app, and of course the PC / Mac software.

I think a well-done Amplitube floorboard modeler that incorporated ToneX would kill, if they could come in at $1999-$1299. It would kill Boss and Fender modelers, for sure.

Yeah, I think some of the Amplitude stuff would need updates, and the price point AND execution would be very important. I would have concerns about the UI/UX and some small silly decisions causing major issues (don't leave off midi or BT, allow cab on/off per output etc.) at least until I see it.

IF they brought all the modeling to the Orange and Mesa Boogie 2 pack levels, I think it’d be very competitive.

As much as I despise that foldable plug design, I'm afraid I need one of these one day. I mean, my main rig is based on TXO sounds already, the small setup to follow - so having a practice solution with the same sounds is just the most logical thing to do.

I’ve been looking forward to the release of new Tonex hardware. But I was thinking more along the lines of a “Tonex Pro” — maybe a combination of Tonex and (effects from) Amplitube in a high-quality hardware floorboard — not this new butt plug.

I think I’d pick a Tonex One over this new device nine times out of ten.

Tonex captures are super efficient to run from a processor perspective. Obviously I can't speak to the Plug, but the OG Pedal, the One, and the Mac/PC software all run the same captures at full quality without any conversion BS like you have with NAM and most hardware.
I thought there was a slight quality reduction though when loaded onto the pedals. ATM unsure if true.

Basically I'd agree, but the option to just plug in without anything else is quite nice.
I also noticed that the TXO, at least under Android, doesn't play too well with some apps when used as an interface. iRealPro (which I really like using for on-the-road practising) is causing quite some crackling. With the Tonex Plug, that should be no issue as there's only a BT stream running into it.
