I Want a Headless

Had a play around with the Legator.

Pros -

Light.
Pickups are great.
Looks nice.
Neck is very comfortable.
Got used to fan frets very quickly.
Great balance.
Battery compartment in case I ever think of throwing actives in there.

Cons-
Could still be even lighter, though.
Tuners are stiff as fuck.
Not looking forward to string change.
Spikey string ends.

So something the guy I traded with is after doing that really annoys me, and funnily the guy I bought the 7 string I traded today did the exact same thing, is he's after putting an extra thick string in the low B. Like he bought an 8 string pack and put the F# string in and threw out the B.

The string doesn't fit in the nut right and ends up sitting high over the fretboard.

I'm going to have to do a string change tomorrow.

Wtf? Like a .72+ on the low B? That’s thick.

I typically did this back when I played 7 strings :sofa

tbf I never ever had that string tuned to B though…. I was always in drop G. I cut the nut on one of my 7s but fit fine on the other one

Yeah. It was drop G exactly.

I guess it's probably OK if you do file the nut, but when it's not filed the string doesn't go straight from nut to bridge. It arcs, ever so slightly, causing a raise around the middle. And a bunch of flubbiness to boot.

I swapped the strings on the Legator this morning for proper 7 strings and it feels instantly better.

I had to raise the saddle on the B string where he clearly had to lower it all the way down to try compensate for the slight hump caused by a too-big.

Now the string runs straight from nut to bridge. The fret buzz on that string fixed itself. Or probably more accurate to say the buzz was caused by the ill fit.

The strings weren't as hard to change as made out on one of the reviews either. Seems to be a user issue.

Had a lot of fun learning this song this morning.

I think Lagator's Hive pickups have the right, progressive sound for this style.

More importantly, I've become a headless and fan-fret convert and I may need to rethink my guitar collection!

We'll see. Might be premature here.

Glad it's working out well for you @Jynx !!

Once my other 2 headless get back from the luthier, I'm going to be figuring some shit out myself. Hopefully have 'em back this weekend. My H/06 is getting 95% of my time since I got it.

Looking at the specs, though, the Leia is 6lbs. Bit heavy for a headless. Defeats the purpose.
