I think PRS are about to announce an abomination

Guessing the NF = Narrow Field. :idk

Yeah, they had the NF3 years ago, which was kind of a pseudo-strat with the narrowfield pickups. Jimmy Herring loves his, but I've never seen anyone else playing them.

I actually like the solid green. I like PRS guitars, too, but maple necks with birds can go straight into the dumpster. If this had a rosewood fingerboard with moons it'd be a thousand times better.

Man those are some ugly guitar designs. PRS really could do a whole lot better.

To me their whole aesthetic and balance is just somehow "off" and I can't even describe how. The body seems too wide and somehow even the smaller pickguard on the NF53 doesn't quite work.

Okay, I must be out of my mind, because, I kinda like the NF53.

I HATE Teles, (fight me), so that might make sense.

I think it's just, different, and kind of it's own thing.

In the demo done by PRS (not the one for the signature version), he could've left out the part about, "for the people who do tone-swells," because I can't honestly see how the location of the tone knob could work for that, especially for people with short pinkies.

Idk what it is, but on many PRS models, to me the controls' locations don't make a lot of sense.

The volume knob on my CU24 is in exactly the right place, IMHO. My DGT volume is just slightly too far down.

Not gonna lie, I'm extremely intrigued by the NF3. It's a little fugly but seems like a brilliant guitar. Those tuner heads gotta go though.

$2900 is just way, way too steep though. Price creep has gotten out of hand for PRS. If it were listed at $2000, I'd probably sell my Tele and Les Paul and get one. But not at that price.

More interested in an Ibanez AZS, outside of the dinky curved control plate. $2,000 for a MIJ Tele style with jumbo stainless frets, yes.

I'm actually fully on board with them not just doing a Tele with a PRS headstock. It's the pricing that kills me.

Four years ago the CE-24 was $1999 and now they are $2629, which is a 30% increase. That's over double the already crazy high inflation we've experienced.

Why is the NF 53 another $270 more expensive than the CE-24? It doesn't have a flame maple top, it doesn't have a rosewood fretboard, it doesn't have locking tuners, it doesn't have a tremolo, hell it's not even a string through body. Spec-wise, it's a downgrade in most areas.

I love PRS guitars and love the idea of more bolt-on models, but they are gouging on the pricing for no reason. This guitar should be $1999 and the CE-24 should be about $2299.

For the exact same price as the PRS NF 53, you can get EBMM's version of the Tele, the Valentine, which has the following:
  • Roasted AAA flame maple neck with rubbed oil finish compared to plain maple on the PRS
  • Stainless steel frets compared to the nickel steel on the PRS
  • Schaller locking tuners compared to regular tuners on the PRS
  • Silent circuit for noiseless operation
  • Custom bridge with string through body design
Otherwise it's a very similar guitar, built in the USA with ash body and all the fun stuff.

That one is even uglier tho :barf

I've never been a fan of the quacky PRS mid range but that's me.
The Mayer thing was bad enough, the Hendrix amp ugh...and this just takes the cake

Same. There’s always something in the midrange of PRS that bothers me when I play them.

I’ve wondered before if it’s the pickups or something in the design of the guitar

Probably the pickups. I have a set of Suhr Thornbuckers in my PRS CE-24 and it sounds awesome, very balanced, much better than my Les Paul. I have a set of Suhr SSV's in my S2 Standard 24 as well, and that's got a great tone as well, again much better balance than the Les Paul.

The original 85/15 pickups in the CE-24 weren't midrangey across the board. Bridge was vintage hot level with a little more midrange and a lot of high end clarity. Neck pickup was hot and bassy, although it had a pleasant mid scoop and high end. Kind of like hotter versions of Duncan 59's.

Agreed about the CU24. I guess it depends on your playing style.

Me reading through this thread...

I admit, I am a stick in the mud when it comes to the Telecaster. Sorry not sorry.
Same bruh. Teles can eff off for all I care . Humbuckers and gain, or GTFO.

It's the pickups. The older models like the dragon iis and HFS had a definite upper mid range thing going on. It actually really works to cut through at gig volume but it's less pleasant when playing at home on your own.
