I think I want a Quad Cortex...

Sorry for the whiney topic, just doing a brain dump I guess. I want a Quad but it seems expensive for what it is. Plus I would need to buy a new PS to integrate it with my board. We're talking $2000, I am not even sure if I would like it and I see quite a few folks buy them and dump them, reports of problems with the hardware, etc. On the surface it seems like it would fit my needs for a live DI rig, good sounds, good effects, lots of switches, highly programmable, but that price. For the record I have an FM3 that sounds amazing but my problem for live use it making tweaks on the fly is a pain in the butt, so it stays in my studio. On my desk I have a Valeton GP-200LT which sounds pretty good and serves me well for home practice and learning songs and whatnot, but it's not flexible enough for live use and the effects are kind of meh. Then there is my trusty Boss GX-100 which I have done many live gigs with over the years and it has served me well. I also recently bought a GX-10 to use for a backup and for rehearsals and jams where I don't want to bring my big board. I play in a southern rock tribute band and we tour around Florida and are doing a little jaunt up the east coast in a couple of weeks. Anyway I would love to try a QC but I can't get past the initial cash layout. Let me know your thoughts on this and how you justified the purchase. Thanks and rock on!

Get a 2nd hand one??? I just did recently (the 3rd one I've ever owned; 3rd time lucky!) and it cost me £950. Is basically brand new.

There's always the AM4? Interface would be easier to use than the FM3.

But I actually prefer many of the to HX
Delays , verb , pitch
Most modulations
I give to NDSP especially new verb

But yes FX still are probably better and more transparent in the Fractal boxes

The effects are fine for me. They have improved in recently updates. Most of them are better than the Helix effects imo.

id maybe agree on the stock settings of the effects, but once you start moving them around a bit i really like them a lot and they do come alive. the fairly recent update where they added the eventide, synth, bitcrusher, data corrupter was sweet.

Maybe they’ve gotten better, I haven’t tried one since they first came out.

I remember thinking the modulations weren’t that great, the pitch shift was monophonic only, the drives didn’t interact very well with the amps, and of course the spring reverb was

The fx sound like they have been improved over time. I'd mainly be concerned about learning a brand new piece of gear before taking it right out on tour more than anything else.

Alternately, buy it new and return it if it doesn’t feel like a $2K improvement in your life. (I tried the same experiment and wound up with two of them LOL.)

This would be a no brainer for me if t weren't limited to 4 blocks. I could probably make it work though.

I have played one in my friends studio that I have used many times but only if every thing good is being used. I will stick with my soldano vht and diesel stuff. I use axe 3 for fx atm. The core amp sounds are good but everything else is compromised.

They're better than the Kemper, Helix, and Axe FX 3 in quite a lot of cases. Both in terms of sound and usability. I'm actually having a butt ton of fun with my one.

It depends on what you want.
