I spent $1300 on a Mesa 2x12 Split Back so you don't have to (but you really should)!

The 2x12 vertical is on my list with creambacks, likely. The only reason I went with the horizontal to start is that I need the cab for my Mark III AND Dual Rectifier. With the Rectifier head unfortunately doing a muffintop thing on the vertical cab, that was a no-go for me.

Who cares how it sounds. It needs to look cool or nobody will think it sounds awesome.
LMAO I have my Mark V on top of my Mesa Virt just because of that perfect fit, only smaller amps are allowed on top of that one.

Mine. Bought it this year for 500 euros. Replaced the bottom C90 with a EV-12L.

Not to hijack, but I ordered one of these this morning. Not sure why the pricing is lower than any other recto 2x12 I can find, as the specs and the full model and not the compact. It’s backordered until Oct 6 so who knows if it will even land, but figured I’d share.

This is a great sounding cab. I pair mine with a Bandlander 100.

Those Mesa 2x12 Vert cabs are some of the best cabs ever made by anyone, ever! They sound incredible with anything you put into them. I had one a long time ago and unloaded it with a bunch of other gear. One of my bigger f**k ups. I have a Marshall Vert cab now loaded with Cannibis Rex speakers and while it sounds good, the Mesa crushes it. I would love to get one with an EV on the bottom and a Creamback on the top. Congrats OP on a fantastic cab. I'm envious!

I also had a Mesa Thiele EV loaded cab back in the 90's that I recall was great. Also gone. I can be a very stupid man at times as my wife loves to remind me! :rofl

Mine arrived; I had Mesa load it with Alnico Cream 90s (I'm not a metal player). I posted a thread about it where I could go on and on as I typically do, but here's a pic - this thread inspired me to seriously look into getting one.

Thanks for the recommendation, guys. I love the way this thing sounds with all the amps, especially the Mark VII.

That's such an awesome collection of cabs, really jealous.

I just have two. Used to have an Emperor 4x12 with Tonkers and Governors that was brutal, but I was really space challenged in my last home, so away it went.

*Sigh* Yes, I know that the stack of rackmount equipment is an accident waiting to happen. Been meaning to rack it up, but rack cases are expensive, so biding my time. At the moment, it's a veritable Leaning Tower of Pisa haha

Gosh, you have a sweet assortment of super-nice gear!

There are lots of times I think I have too many cabs, and other times I want more. The gear stuff is relentless!

I had that Argosy 10 space rolling rack that's next to my amps sitting unused in my storage room for years, because I took my recording "in the box" around 2013. I only started using it again when I got the KHE amp and cab switcher a few years ago. It's overkill for the two rackspaces of stuff sitting in it, but it was there, and I already owned it, so...I stuck the gear in it.

I almost threw it out during one of my Storage Room Cleanup brainstorms, but I was - literally - too lazy to carry it up the stairs! :rofl

Beats a sharp stick in the eye, I guess.

No one wanted these DIY Mesa Garage Era Cabs 20-30 years ago. No one. I paid like $200 for mine.

The nostalgia is heavy with these on the aesthetic side. They do sound f'ing great, though. Probably
the largest 2 x 12 ever put into worldwide production.

I bought one and all my concerns about the open back were a big fat nothing. KILLER cab.

For me that's where the magic is. Best of both worlds.
:banana

I have mic'd the bottom speaker and mic'd the back of the top speaker before.
:chef

They will test out the storage space in an hatchback SUV, though.

Thanks! I went through a tonne of stuff before realising that I really enjoy rack gear. It's quite fun to plug a VHT GP3 into a Stereo Rectifier 2:100, or an Engl E530 into a 2902. Just opens up so many combinations of gear. I'm now down to two full-fledged amps: a Mark IV and a Sig:X.

I wish I had more cabs, but it's getting harder and harder to justify them when space is at a premium and neighbours can be quite rude about sounds being blasted into their houses.

That rolling rack is awesome, I want one just like it to house all those rack units, but I think they can't handle that much weight. I mean, the Argosys probably could, but I'm probably looking at budget plywood equipment.

As long as the rack rails are steel, and if the plywood is reasonably strong, pretty much any rack can hold a lot of weight. For extremely heavy stuff, either rear rack rails or other supports could be installed along the sides, or at the rear of the amps.

When I had the Argosy racks in my studio loaded, I had a Neve Summing Mixer; a heavy 1990s forcusrite Red 4 monitor controller that I still have - it's quite heavy, Rupert Neve didn't mess around when he owned Focusrite; a tube mic preamp and compressor, and a balanced power supply that weighed about 70 pounds.

Not that I'm arguing for or against steel racks. I had some nice steel/aluminum racks made by Yamaha in the '80s that held 20 rack spaces of heavy gear, and those racks were perfectly capable of supporting 400-500 pounds.

But plywood with steel rack rails will hold quite a lot of weight.

That's some good information. I actually am thinking I might cheap out and go anothe route and have one of those rolling stainless steel racks from Amazon with five shelves to fit all my gear. This would be pragmatic in my situation, where I constantly have to plug in and plug out of equipment because I don't have one of those amp switchers or enough cabs or loadboxes to leave everything plugged in.

For gigging, I doubt I'd be taking much more than my Victory Kraken. If there's no cab available, a PRS Archon 25 combo or if there's something to monitor with, my Axe FXIII.

I don't own a car because I drive too fast, so the equipment I would like to carry is bare minimum. Back in the day, I would be carrying a Marshall MG50DFX cab, a pedalboard and a guitar on a bus. This was during my "have gear, will travel" phase in college. Now I would just like to have everything in small sizes to avoid throwing my back.
