I might not need an fc6

Footswitching on Fractal is amazing!

Starting to conceptualize how I’ll use the fm3 and I came up with something that’s making me think I might not even need the fc6.

Here’s what I set up (wish I could add a video):
  1. Created 3 presets.
    1. Acoustic instruments with a Scene for each one
    2. Electric 1 (currently 1959slp)
    3. Electric 2 (currently Bassman)
  2. Created a Song to handle instruments
    1. Each of the 5 acoustic instrument Scenes is a section
  3. Created a Layout that is all per-preset switches
  4. Created an empty preset to act as “Mission Control” for switching
    1. All signal is muted in this preset but it has reverb and delay trails
    2. View 1/2 footswitches use the Song sections from step 2 to automatically select instruments and change to the appropriate preset/scene on click/hold
  5. Electric presets
    1. Each represents an amp and different effects to go along with it.
    2. View 1 left switch toggles between the two amp presets, the other toggle the two most used effects for that amp
    3. View 2 switches toggle less used effects for that amp
  6. Acoustic preset
    1. Sends MIDI to switch instrument inputs
    2. Common effects and volume boost switches
  7. External 2-btn switch
    1. Goes to Mission Control
    2. Toggles between View 1/2

What do you think? I’m excited about the idea I had of using an empty preset as a command center for navigation. I think this plus a volume pedal and a Morningstar ML5 could be all I need

Glad you are getting it all sorted! :beer

I use mine in Stompbox Mode 99% of the time. I don't do
any Amp/Cab switching within a song. But will change
Presets between songs occasionally. Then into Stompbox/FX
Mode where I can turn On/Off FX as needed with a song.

EXP Pedal (dual Mission) doing dual duty as a Volume Pedal
and as a Delay Mix/Level. Separate Wah outfront. All fits neatly
onto my board. :chef

Use it longer and you might get annoyed having to manage a set of different views and modes. I tried similar shenanigans on the FM3 at first but got frustrated by them and just moved to using a MIDI controller with it.

I’m not so sure. Most of this is very much a “set it and forget it” thing. Once it’s built it’s done. I’ve got 2 electric preset slots I can set as needed for the show, and the rest all stays the same.

This is utilizing 4 presets, 1 layout, and 1 song. If I have needs for different setups for different gigs I have plenty of other space to set those up while leaving this intact

I need to get my double switch connected and configured. Last time I dug through the 47 submenus to get it done I was this close to throwing the switch at the wall :cuss:bag

Glad you stuck it out. Screenshots of the setup please?:rofl

It’s not too bad: Setup -> FC Controllers/Onboard Switches -> Stand-In Switches

Just to pat myself on the back a bit, I did all of this on-device with no editor :stirthepot

Doing all this made me realize a couple features I wish they would add (maybe they have and I need to RTFM):

  1. Have a footswitch select a preset and a specific scene on that preset.
  2. Have an option for a default layout for each preset. So when you change presets it automatically changes your layout to the one for that preset

Where I get stuck is "RING/TIP/TIP/TIP/RING". As dumb as that sounds. A lot of it is not wanting to blow my pedalboard up and absolute flash anger with setting up anything that isn't an FC.

I always do my stand-in switch assignments twice: once to set them, and again to flip them because they were backwards

Every. single. time. :rofl

But to be fair I always had the same problem on HX and every other device
