I did it.....

Eh? How'd that work?

Hope you dig it. Tokais are awesome. Curious to hear your impression of the electronics. I’ve been thinking about swapping pickups on my 2 Tokais.

How are you getting on with this now you've had it for a while @Orvillain? How does it stack up vs your Orville and have you swopped the pickups yet?
Hey man, I missed this, sorry for not responding! I was gonna bump this thread with.....

It plays lovely. The neck feels glorious, and it just feels like a really high quality instrument. I need to replace the stock pickups for sure though. I need a Duncan Distortion in there.

The tuning stability is not quite what I would want. I also notice that the D string (or in my case, high C string since it is in drop C) doesn't really want to be in tune. It slips a fair bit. When I try to nudge it back in tune, the string feels really tight, and then it sort of pings and overshoots. I'm guessing it is the nut? Jon at Feline did file it a bit for me, but it still does it.

I raised the tail piece a bit to see if that helped. It didn't tbh.

I'm using 56-11's:

I tune to drop-C and drop-B, but it isn't any more stable in one tuning or the other.

@Eagle any thoughts boss man?

You are using thicker strings, and I bet the nut is slotted for a .046 or so. I bet
opening it up with a wider nut file would do the trick. The nut slot for that
string is just too narrow from the factory to accommodate the strings you are using.

I'd touch up all the slots for the wound strings, personally speaking. :idk

Try stringing up with the wraps going up instead of down to reduce the angle over the nut;

And make sure the stop tail is raised enough for the string to not contact the body of the bridge behind the saddle.

I've bonded with mine really quickly, like you said the neck is fantastic. It really does feel like a quality guitar. I've not had time to send mine over to Jon yet so just set it up myself. I've gone up a string size too but I'm using 11-49 tuned in standard.

I was having some tuning issues too but they've all gone now after setting it up how I like it and using some big bends nut sauce to lubricate the nut. If your strings are still pinging then the nut needs widening or lubricating or both. If you don't have it this is good stuff.

A little goes a really long way.

Before it arrived I was convinced I'd have to change the pickups in mine too but it looks like Tokai has just changed them from the MK2S to Mk2 (not confusing at all :hmm)

So far I'm really liking them and they sound a lot like my Mojo Pafs. They'd probably still not suit you though as they're a bit low output for the music you're playing.

I'll probably swop them at some point just to satisfy my curiosity.
