I keep staring at my walrus acs-1 and giving it an evil eye for it’s existence… how dare it… mocking me with its fake presentation of of of idk… a good sound… but still… its a fucking piece of digital modeling thing…

Congrats?

Seriously though having gear I don’t use always bothers me so I tend to sell what I am not using.

I like my Axe3. It is the front end on my DAW. I can’t see getting rid of it especially since it just got another update today.

I’ve never gigged with it though. I do have a VP4 that I just need a gig for now :)

I’ve been using my AxeFx basically as a multi-fx for about 6 months, so I feel you.

There is something simple and fun about just sitting down in front of a pedalboard and combo, or when feeling frisky, a big bottle amp and cab. That can’t be replaced by digital setups.

I dig modelers, but I doubt I’ll ever look at it as a true replacement of the traditional playing experience. (I’m not an old fart, but that oddly feels very “get off my lawn” to say lol)

Is this due to the Lotus giving you volume control of your amps?

That’s a big part of it. Between attenuators, reactive load boxes, and the quality of cab emulators these days there are just so many other options.

It used to be you had no choice but to use a digital modeler to get decent direct tone with no stage volume, but now I can easily use my amp of choice at at any volume - including no volume.

My recent experience with the EAE Citadel has also opened my eyes to how good analog preamp pedals have gotten. That thing sounds amazing! I could gig that as my amp all day

The beauty of being a true old fart is to embrace and accept what it is.

Whizz, say after me: I am an old fart and I love myself for it, the Swede loves me for being an old fart, and the Swede is an old fart, and he knows the true path of the old fart. There is no shame in old fart.

You see, something that is perceived as negative can be turned around to something good. Wear the old fart badge with pride my dear fellow grumpy old fart! We are what we are.

Its all just devices. Use what you like. There is no ethos involved.

I tend to keep stuff, because I hate the process of selling. I also find that the less I sell, the less I buy. Often I find out that my dissatisfaction with a piece of gear has little to
do with the gear, and I end up "rediscovering" (realizing there was nothing wrong with) the given guitar, amp, pedal or modeler in the first place.

All that to say that the equipment is there to serve your purposes. If you're happy with your choice, you're right.
