HUD - Great Movie Free

“Hard-drinking, arrogant, womanizing Hud Bannon (Paul Newman) lives a self-centered, indolent life supported by his hard-working and morally upstanding father"

I may be hard-drinking and arrogant but I ain’t no womanizer 😂

The movie is a bit more complex than the synopsis. I watched it again last night on Pluto. Excellent time capsule of a movie that has a lot to say with very few words. I do think it could have benefited from a solid soundtrack with music to highlight some scenes. Some of which are brutal and some which just make you think.

I’m glad I thought of it and gave it another go. There were a few things I missed on the first go round. It is not necessarily a fun watch and it’s paced for a different time. But the cinematography is excellent and the acting is great even if Paul Newman overplays his character. Maybe that’s exactly how his character is though. Patricia Neil is just perfect in every way IMO.

I would change just one thing about the very ending scene right before “The End A Paramount Film” comes up.

Hud (Paul Newman) pulls down the shade on the door he just closed. That would complete the metaphor.
