How much have you traveled this year?

I was texting with a friend of mine, talking about the gigs/trips I've had and that I have coming up, and I realized, I have TRAVELED this year, probably more, or to more different states/places than ever before, and I didn't really notice it until I thought about it. Most of these are gigs, but a few are personal trips:

1. February - Key West, FL for a week of gigs
2. April - Jacksonville, FL for 3 days
3. June - Ohio (Put-In-Bay) for 3 days
4. July - Ohio (Put-In-Bay) for 3 days
5. August - Ohio (Put-In-Bay) for 3 days
6. September - Tennessee (never been there) for a family wedding
7. November - Minnesota (never been there) for a band wedding
8. December - Key West, FL for a week of gigs

There's already another week in Key West on the books again, next February, so, next year won't be much different.

Very little thankfully. I haven't had to travel for work in several years, I think since before Covid. Took the family on a road trip over the summer to South Dakota and Wyoming (I'm from Minnesota). So not more than 8 hours driving in a day.

I hate flying. I can do it, I just don't like it at all. And I don't love traveling outside of a few days for fun. I like being at home.

My job for the last 8+ years involves a lot of driving, and although most of my travel is within the State of Ohio, many times I go into Indiana, PA, KY and WV to help cover when other people are out. For most of those years, I have had the top level status (Diamond) for both Hilton and IHG, if that gives you any idea . This year, though, I have made an effort to try to reduce overnights, so my level should have dropped a tier at both, but I was just informed by Hilton that I get to keep Diamond status until March 2027 even though by nights and points I shouldn’t have qualified; oh, well :idk. Add to that I usually go back to the SW Chicago burbs once a month to visit my mom and daughter.

I am reaching the point, though, that I am getting too old for this kind of work, am getting sick of the 2.5 - 3+ hour drives one way, and I do not like spending more than maybe one overnight on the road during my week anymore. Even though I would like to keep my job (and the decent paycheck, company vehicle, etc.), I am not bouncing back from busy weeks like I used to, and add to that changes in my company…early semiretirement may end up being a thing in late 2026.

This is me as well. I hate flying, I don't care for traveling in general, and I like being at home. Fortunately, my wife is the same. There are a few parks we'd like to see. That's about it.

I don't think I've been on a plane all year, but lots of miles in the car road trippin. Drove from San Diego to northern Minnesota and back in May.

Mowed my lawn a lot...

...used to love travel, but you'd need a crowbar to get me out there these days.

One camping trip and one cabin trip with the family. I don't usually travel for work.

First was just a nearby (2-3 hrs) campsite. We took the pop-up camper and met with some friends and stayed for about 4 days.

The cabin was near Lassen National Park, just another couple hours drive. We went up to Bumpus Hell and experienced a seemingly otherworldly landscape of colorful geothermal activity, putrid sulfur smells and very hot temperatures.

We also found a field of snow and the coldest lake I've ever seen someone swim in.

Going to take the camper on another weekend trip next month, this time a kind of work/pleasure trip as the entire campsite will be taken over by us, my boss' family, and our client families of which whose children we care for.

I also don't like flying. A 6'1 200+lb man with hip and back issues can't get very comfortable shoehorned into a tin can. I need to move or I'll lock up!

I usually get 1-2 New England trips in per year but this year that hasn’t been the case. Probably won’t travel much at all until after the new year. Next trip I take up there will probably be a drive so I can take Echo along with me.

Not much. Just between two cities for work a few times a month, and took a few short cruise trips to Estonia to buy cheaper alcohol.

This year - Vegas, Boston, and India (and technically one night in Weisbaden, Germany due to missed flight).

Flying sucks, but it's worth it to be able to visit other countries/cities and explore the food, landmarks, and culture.
