Home stereo rig

Sansui AU Series is high on my list of Integrated amplifier choices

I used to listen to music a LOT. Albums, then CD's, then I-Pod, then streaming. But I find I'm rarely in a situation where I can just put on music. Driving, mowing the lawn, or cooking dinner, and that's about it. It's just too easy to plug my earbuds into my phone whenever I want to listen to some music, rather than deal with my stereo. But I still keep it. Doesn't make a lot of sense.

I love listening to music, while I do listen to my PC it sounds good on my 2.1 system still no where near as good as a 70s stereo
which on a Saturday night after a good meal some good wine and some high fidelity, is my way of R&R

Decades ago, I subscribed to both High Fidelity and Stereo Review magazines! Loved nice equipment, but never had the money for the real good stuff. I have owned a few nice pieces though. One of them I still have, a Nakamichi preamp/tuner (Model 630 - giant rotary dial tuner). It has not been hooked up in years though. I have a pair of B & W speakers that I have only tested, and other than that they have sat unused since I bought them 10+ years ago (girlfriend did not like the way they looked where I wanted to place them and I jumped through hoops to get them because nobody wanted to ship to me, lol). Current system is my home theater system. Mid level Yamaha receiver, Klipsch 5.1 speaker system hooked up to my Oppo blu ray player, a home theater computer and the cable box. It gets the job done and I certainly miss my turntable days, but I sold my record collection (~2000) in 2009 as they were collecting dust in a storage locker and I did not have a safe place to put them in my newest living situation. BIG MISTAKE considering I forgot to pull out some of the autographed albums I had in there. DOH!!! If I had a proper room, I would get back into it, but with the space I have to work with, the system I have is sufficient!

I never got into vinyl so technically no.

My "hifi" system is more like a stereo home theater with 10+ year old Magnat Quantum 503 speakers and a Denon AVR1610 receiver. Speakers are alright, receiver is idiotic in operation to the point that there was a "Batpig's Denon To English" guide website to show you how to set it up.

But honestly my computer + audio interface + Genelec studio monitors setup is just way superior so I just use that. It's hard to ignore the convenience of digital solutions for music. No CD swapping etc. I have a pile of FLAC ripped from my CD collection and otherwise use Spotify.

Exactly this. I listen to music when I run, mow or drive. It's a decent amount of time over the course of a week, but I never have time to just sit down and listen to an album anymore.

Maybe a turntable and preamp into my Kali's downstairs would be a good excuse to upgrade my "studio" monitors :whistle

I find I go in spurts, like anything. I do a lot of "focused listening," where that's all I'm doing, for a few weeks, and then nothing for a while, then a bunch of listening, etc.

I've noticed I'm kind of either in input or output mode: either I'm listening a lot, but not playing a lot, or playing a lot, but not doing much listening.

I do have music going when I'm driving (if not a podcast) or having a shower, though, using my phone.

Additionally, for focused listening, I have a Fiio M11 Plus and Shure SRH1540 headphones that I love, streaming High Res through Apple Music, when not using the vinyl.

Every time I consider building a stereo rig I start lurking on HiFi forums and inevitably decide for my sanity this is not the way I want to spend my time or money. :ROFLMAO:

I will say, listening to music on my Adam Audio monitors is quite nice. I think if I threw in a sub, it would probably be enough for me.

If you only raise your power cables off the floor with these affordable - only $499 a piece - cable aqueducts and then set your amplifier on these $279 spikes and put this $399 tone pyramid on top of it, you will certainly reach the utmost clarity, wide soundstage, piano-like high end, relaxed midrange and precise low end sound many believe is the only proper way to listen to DJ Assault's "Ass N Titties."

Same, and I never had a listening room or area, still don't, so it's been mostly in the car for me over the last 25 years or so. Kind of a shame.

I bought an old Marantz 2230 (I think?) receiver, many years ago, because I grew up listening to music on my Mom's Marantz, and it was a sentimental purchase for me. I haven't even turned in on in probably 10 years, lol.

They look like they are being listed for a pretty penny these days.
