High gain amps that sound *huge*?

Personal note on the side...

This is the first time ever where I could imagine getting interested in chugging... :grin

Is this somehow recorded better than anything else for some stupid reason? It sounds awesome compared to any other chugging I've heard before on YouTube. I know Ola uses/used one of those.

Definitely hindsight. I believe I got the last Beta he ever made, my dumbass sold it not knowing it would be extinct.

Was definitely a killer amp and sadly I never even got to turn it up past loud bedroom volume 🤣
That's too bad. I'd love to hear how it compares to the Uber Ultra :p

That would be quite a fun time to compare those two amps . Both killer amps but I prefer the Uber. I finally got my Uber dialed in perfectly for rehearsal and it just sounds insane dude. Again I never got to turn up the beta Extremely Loud so that could have changed things. From what I remember what a lot of opinions are on the internet I agree with, that it's kind of like an Uber meets recto kind of thing.

I've heard clips of the gamma and that sounds pretty fucking mean as well.

Guess I gotta try the Ultra then. Having owned the Blue and Twin Jet, I can't imagine it being this good, but I know people really like that amp :rawk

The Blue is the only one I haven't played. Just my opinion but the Ultra completely slays them all.

The downside of the amp to me is that one tiny little adjustment on most of the knobs can be drastic.

Given that there are so many knobs and switches it can be hard to dial it in and the ears can get fatigued by it. But yeah, ive tried a good amount of amps and the only things I'm gassing for is a Wizard just because and a Mk2 Engl Savage.

Wouldn't mind having my Pitbull back either but to me the Uber is ridiculous and an almost perfect amp.

+1 on Wizard. They have a depth and punch that may not translate in a recording, but in the room it always brings a big grin to a player's face.

The most significant factor seems to be the Mercury Magnetics output transformer. Bogner too was using this brand until the early 2000's, then moved on to more affordable options. This is why some guys really laud the 90's XTC models - they have a meaner and more articulate vibe.

The 2002 101b I just traded off had the MM transformers. Definitely agree that it was special sounding. I owned a later 101b before it and thought that amp was insanely bright to the point where I hated it.
