Help me walk through my latest insanity

New idea: satellite board to handle switching and routing for theater stuff. That way my electric board can be smaller and easily used on its own when I’m doing just electric gigs.

Also thinking about just getting a mixer to run all the acoustics through instead of a Stomp. It would be cheaper and simpler. This also lets me bring back my page turner!

On the electric board the signal goes like this:

Chorus Ensemble -> Switchback -> H Monk -> some reverb pedal -> SDE-3000

Switchback Loop 1: Dynacomp -> ge-7 -> SCF -> True Spring

Switchback Loop 2: DOD 250 -> Rattler -> MG

Electric board is Creation Aero 18. Satellite board is 10x12.5

Under the shelf:

And acoustics go to something like this

Or I could use a slightly bigger satellite board (14x12.5) and run the stomp

I’d probably just cut a board and spray it black for the satellite board.

My big question right now is processing acoustic instruments. I’ve got two possibilities and I can’t decide which way to go.

Option 1: HX Stomp on the board

Option 2: Behringturd X Air 12

The pros of the Stomp are that it keeps it all in one place, smaller footprint, and the Stomp has other uses.

The pros of the X Air are that I’d have a frequency analyzer for better dialing in EQs, being off the board frees up space for other things or smaller boards, and I might not even need the ML5s since I could plug all the instruments straight into it and use MIDI to control which channel is active

I started the day thinking I might want to simplify this board and ended the day shopping for G3 switchers… so I’m in a pretty healthy mindset with this project :ROFLMAO:

I have its little brother, the Atom, and it’s really awesome. It has its own quirks (everything does) but it’s generally a breeze to use and the build quality is superb. If you’re gonna go bananas, GigRig makes the devices to do it. :rofl

They do have some pretty awesome stuff. I could go really crazy if I’m not careful… but the prices help keep me in line, haha

I’m starting to think a G3 is overkill for me and maybe I’d be better off with a Morningstar MC8 and a couple ML5s

I think this is it…

Pivotal X20 board

Underneath are 3xML5s and a noise gate.

ML5 #1:
  • Input: Electric
  • A-D: acoustic instruments
  • E: Tuner
  • Out: volume pedal input
ML5 #2:
  • In: volume pedal output
  • A: Comp
  • B: EQ
  • C: Mod 1
  • D: Mod 2
  • E: Boost 1
  • Out: ML5 #3
ML5r #3:
  • In: ML5 #2
  • A: Boost 2
  • B: Baseline Drive
  • C: Tremolo/Reverb
  • D: Delay
  • E: Amp
  • Out: HX Stomp
This way I can fully automate all sounds if I want, or I can have everything on and do “manual mode”, or I can have a toggle between a “clean path” and a “drive path” and manually add mod/delay/reverb as needed. I can either use an external tube amp, or I can switch to the Stomp for amps. I can also use the Stomp for cab IR and for post effects if needed.

I also love how compact this is. It’s only 20” but it gives me more than I could fit on a 24x16

Good lord those boards! Do you keep your boards as you cycle through them or do you end up offing them when you decide to change course?

You mean the real boards or the virtual ones as I’m planning?

My plan is for this to be a board I’ll have for a looooong time and use a ton, but also have the ability to swap out individual components as needed

I mean the real boards. I have like 6(?) boards at home in various states of something or other on them. I need to pare it down but no one wants a used pedalboard it seems.

Yeah, I usually don’t plan on recouping any money from boards. I’ve sold ones from the past that I’m not using and I figure anything I can get for them is gravy.

That’s part of why I’m spending so much time planning and thinking this one through. I’m not spending this kind of money on a board unless I’m sure it’s what I need
