The old big box Carl Martin Plexitone is killer.

I have a cheapy clone of this called a Plexitron and it's pretty darn close to the CM.

The LaGrange is good, I'd imagine the J Rocket is as well.

For size and price I'd try to find a Barber Direct Drive.

Not cheap, but the best MIAB I've tried is the Kingsley Constable. You could put it in your FX loop and its basically a JTM preamp. Hell, I like to run mine out in front of my JMP for maximum Marshall goodness.

Thanks all for the replies. I have put the Tsakalis room 40 (plexi mode) in front of the Texas Cali and it does sound awesome. With the same IR, I like it better than the Brit Trem Brt. To my ear it has sweeter mids/highs and very well defined lows.

You mean the Cali Texas in the Helix?
