So I just got an Akai MPK Mini Plus to incorporate into my Helix Stadium/Boss GM-800 rig. I inadvertently discovered that the modulation wheel sends CC 1 — and that Helix and Boss both treat CC 1 very differently and in very (to me, anyway) unexpected and unhelpful ways.
When I put the modulation wheel up and back down, I don't get a pleasant modulation effect — the volume on all parts of the GM-800 fluctuate (ending at zero as I bring the mod wheel back to starting position) AND the EXP 1 pedal (which I normally have set up to adjust the synth volume, ALSO fluctuates and ends up at zero).
Can someone tell me how to stop this behavior and get the mod wheel to apply modulation to the patches? Researching this online, someone suggested changed the mod wheel from CC 1 to a "safe" CC, like 16 or 20 that I could then assign as I wanted. But I can't see how to change that. If I go into edit mode on the Akai and the display says "Move a control to edit," moving the mod wheel does nothing. I also don't see a way to change the CC number in the desktop editor.
Help! I don't use the mod wheel very often, but I don't want to accidentally hit it and have my synth volume disappear (and, it might be nice to use if it actually worked right).
