My current favorite is the Beyer DT1990 pro, but those are over your budget. For lower cost, I love the humble AKG K240, and would use anytime. Sennheiser HD280 is another good option for the price.
My favs are AKG K712 Pro. They list for $659. I picked them up in 2020 for $400. Currently on sale at Amazon (through third party) for $288 ( AKG K712 at Amazon )!!! If I had the disposable cash right now, I would get a second pair ;~)) They sound great and I can wear them for 10 hours and not be uncomfortable. Before those, the DT990 Pro 250 Ohm were my main cans, but once I started with the 712's, they became a very secondary option. And prior to that it was the HD280's from Sennheiser, which I sometimes still use when tracking considering they are closed back and the other two mentioned here are semi-open.
