Have you sold any pedals lately?

There are a lot of threads about buying new pedals (and other gear) and often we just hear about peoples reasons for buying and perhaps their initial honeymoon phase. But we seldom talk about what gear we got rid of and why, do we?

Could this be an interesting thread?

In the past year I sold a MXR Fat Sugar, Strymon Iridium and an El Capistan v2. Reason was I got a Helix LT and convinced myself it was better than having a pedalboard. But now I sold the LT, am going back to HX Stomp + pedals, and I am regretting selling those. I got the Fat Sugar for 79 bucks on sale and now they want 140 for it. I’ll definitely buy one if its ever 80 bucks again, I can’t pass up a sparkly pink klone. Maybe I’ll buy one used. The El Capistan I regret slightly less because it was an expensive pedal that I used mainly for a super basic delay sound. I just bought a carbon copy and it does the job just as well as the El Capistan did, I might like it even more because it’s simple, sounds really good, and I can run it on a daisy chain with my drive pedals. The iridium I am ok with letting go because I think the stomp does everything it could do and better. But I was just thinking the other day it might be nice to go menuless again. I will be more cautious about selling pedals in the future.

I'll contribute myself, of course.

One of the pedals I sold this year was the UAFX Dream ´65.

I liked the core tones of the pedal — classic blackface Fender-style cleans and breakup, with pretty nice reverb and vibrato.

The cab sims/IRs were okay, but I generally preferred my usual suspects from York Audio.

I also understand the concerns some users have about the limited clean headroom: I found it started to break up a bit sooner than I expected, especially when stacking other pedals in front.

Regarding app and Bluetooth connectivity, things usually worked as expected, but I did experience a few instances of connection issues. I would generally be hesistant to rely on Bluetooth and the app in critical situations.

I would appreciate more presets and expanded MIDI functionality to improve flexibility and integration in more complex setups.

A few years ago, I guess I could have been waxing lyrical about this pedal. Nowadays, though, I think there are better options available, also considering the price point.

The Fat Sugar is regularly on sale at MF/GC, so you’ll probably have more chances before the end of the year. Just wanted to share.

I mostly buy to keep these days.

I never tried the pedal, but I did a trial of the Dream 65 plugin right when it came out, and it was fine but it didn’t do anything HX couldn’t do better. It seemed thin and bright and yeah not enough headroom. People talked about the spring reverb like it was amazing but I liked hot springs in helix more.

Only acquire, never sell

Sold my Source Audio Nemesis recently. It's a good sounding pedal, but it's just not how I want to work with delays. I don't need the variety pack approach. I still have a SA Collider, Strymon Volante and El Cap V2 so plenty to work with for delay.

I've never sold a pedal. My pile just gets higher and higher. I've given a few away to friends and family to encourage them to keep playing, but no money exchanged hands.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This has pretty much been the extent of my pedal experience too. The one exception was a few months I traded some nice pedals to purchase another piece of gear. I regretted it enough to not let that happen since. Not saying it would never happen again... but I'd rather give something away as gift instead.

I’ve started selling some pedals because this pedalboard project has gotten way bigger and more complex than I originally planned, so I’m selling out of guilt to offset the expense, haha

So far I’ve sold:

- Surfybear Classic Deluxe
- Boss SD-1W

Quite a few more are on the chopping block though

Hammertone Space Delay, several Amazon knockoffs (Caline /Movall Falling Star delay(and picked up the UA Orion Tape Echo on sale half off. It is a great sounding delay, the rec level is how much Echoplex-style preamp you want….

I have some in the classifieds too, check ‘em out!

I currently count 67 "pedals" including stuff like the Helix and utility boxes (splitters, switchers, tuners, etc.), but my list of past gear is almost as long.

It can't be that bad, eh? I don't see any addiction there! 😁

I dumped a Lost + Found a couple weeks ago because I didn’t gel with overall vibe of the pedal. Not a bad pedal, just not my thing.

I’m moved a DM101 a few months back after I found the Thermae. Great sounding pedal, but form factor is less than ideal and I just ended up digging the Thermae more. Also, time-based MISO pedals inevitably end up being a pain in the ass.

A while back, I let go of my Chase Bliss Tonal Recall RKM. That was right after I got my VP4, and I figured I should sell the Tonal Recall to partially fund the VP4.

Even though I love my VP4—it really gives me everything I need and want when it comes to delays—I still wish I hadn't sold the Tonal Recall.

I’ve wanted to try that pedal. Seems to me they really nailed a lot of those early pedals, before they got obsessed with micro loopers.

Id like to give the Warped Vinyl a spin too.
