By all accounts, EJ is one of the most genuine, giving, and nicest guys out there. Your encounter only helps solidify that further.![]()
I'm so jealous!!
At the Petrucci camp, any time John was walking between his room and where the various events were held, several people were already talking to him, and I wasn't bold enough to get to him. He took the time, but you could tell he was trying to get where he was going, so I just held back and listened.
The only time I saw him alone was after he was done flipping burgers at the final evening BBQ, and everyone else was eating. He had made himself a plate and was eating by himself, and I just couldn't bring myself to bother the man while he was eating. But I really wanted to!
For you to hold court with him like that must have been a HUGE highlight!! If I'd gotten a chance like that with JP, my questions would've been all about technique though.![]()
hahahah EJ was all ready to play and talk technique or break parts down and of course in hindsight I have a million things I wish I would have asked, there’s a few licks in the “Lonely In The Night” solo I’d love to see him actually play.
I think because EJ is using all vintage gear and he’s looking for that idiosyncratic stuff; the Marshall that sounds better than the other 10 Marshalls, the ‘54 Strat that just has that extra ‘something special’, I like hearing what it actually is that makes these pieces ‘special’ and how they’re basically making their own sausage.

Hadn't seen this until now, amazing Drew! Holy crap man.
I've always thought about what questions I would ask someone like EJ but I always come up with nothing. I don't have any burning questions so I feel like one of those opportunities would be slightly wasted on me.
Stoked that you got the chance! Also that the second night went well after that first encounter.
What you described is pretty much ideal for a meet and greet (short of actually playing through all his stuff of course.)
