Anyone tried one of these? I’m curious what they sound like.

I’m guessing that tone wise they’re probably more similar to an SG than an LP?

Just get a special.

Maybe so. My thinking is I’d like something very similar to my LP Standard but that balances better sitting without a strap.

Also something that can act as a backup that I don’t mind getting banged up a bit in a pit

I had a '91 Studio lite, very nice light LP. Hot pups Gibson 500T in the bridge, ebony board very slick. Sounded like an LP. Pretty thin neck.

I'd recommend a Japanese Edwards LP instead, specifically an ALS model. Be easier than trying to find a Lite in decent condition.
And the Edwards are usually light(my 2012 ALS weighs 7.3 lbs non-chambered) and much higher quality than a Gibson.

The special sounds better imo . A maple cap that is half the wood is too much

I’ll have to think about it a bit. I don’t mind a thin neck or body, I do hate that rough finish though when it’s not a natural wood color. Colors like Inverness seem like they need to be smooth gloss to me.

Maybe a Special would be a better option
