Fractal Talk

I'm trying to understand input impedance defaults for the drive block. The real TS808 and SD-1, from what I've read, list an input impedance of 500K, but their models default to 1M and 230K. The Mesa Flux Drive lists 1M (minimum of 500K), but the model defaults to 230K. The Flux' minimum of 500K confuses me, because I thought pedals have a fix input impedance. Does anyone know if the input impedance changes depending on settings for certain pedals?

Do pedals typically measure pretty far off from the listed input impedance? If 500K is a common value for some popular overdrives, why would that be missing not only from Fractal's modelers, but also in modelers from other companies?

I'm not asking because I think this is a bug, but because I genuinely want to understand the logic here.
Whatever version of the pedal @FractalAudio used to model the drive block version against likely had that input impedence.

Yanked my VP4 off my pedalboard today to just use it in 4CM with the Plexi50, I wanted to spend some time with the drives. Every time I dig into them I'm more and more impressed with how far they've come. And the compressors, I can get lost noodling with those compressors just as much as I can the drives.

I made a 'grab and go' preset, something I'd use if I were to use the VP4 into a clean amp, it's 2 drives, delay and a reverb. I wanted a cleanish boost for the first one and have the usuals I always go to, the BB Timmons and Klone in particular, but the FAS Boost was took the lead today. I'm using the Suhr Riot GE for the high gain, then both of them for the lead scene. I still need to actually try probably 50% of them, which is what I was trying to do today, but ....noodles....

Any reason why you would not want to put this in the DSC as a #jam?

Sounds great dude. 🤘

Two reasons (I’ve actually put thought into this before)-

I never think to and because I noodle like this every day and nothing really comes of it, it’s almost like it doesn’t count for me. Like say if I didn’t make the VP4 presets yesterday but noodled, if someone asked me if I played yesterday I’d likely say “No, not really” There’s probably some underlying self-sabotage/not good enough mentality at play there.

But I’ll toss it in there, I can use the points!!

Part of Drews Mastery is always with the Pick toss and based on observation the way the pick is tossed it usually indicates Nailed it or somewhat nailed it lol

The more enthusiastic I am, the harder and more accurate the toss is.

A couple weeks ago my dad asked me to send him the video where I flick the pick at the camera in the end and I had to chuckle at the microcosm that request was for our entire relationship. :rofl

Great playing dude!

Great playing dude!

I actually do appreciate this, particularly because I felt like I was playing like dog shit the other day and I’ve been actively working at shutting off my brain when it’s telling me that, so this is actually helpful and not just to feel the sensation of smoke in the anoos.

Thanks to you and the others for that!

Don't get into metal or stone picks or you will need plexiglass shields for the camera!

I’ve actually managed to rock both my work and personal phones without a case at all for over a year. My iphone is missing chunks out of the back, but the screen is still fine! :rofl

Yikes! I break cases and lens protectors all the time. I have broken some in under an hour! I stopped using metal picks but now I am almost exclusively using stone so I feel like I shouldn't throw them in glass houses, or at anything I don't want to break. On second thought, whatever I am aiming for is probably the only thing that is safe!

Oh, I break ‘em all the time, too. There was some passive-aggressive protest in there somewhere. :rofl
