Btw, we have a dedicated FAS FW update thread here. Just sayin...

The day I’ve been waiting for…. Skipped the betas. Kinda hoping to get snowed in this weekend…

Yeah I never use dual amps, tone match, or multiple plex blocks or reverb blocks. Basically run a simple chain. I barely ever hit DSP limits with the fm3, so the fm9 should have some extra wiggle room.

I’m also much less interested in the latest and greatest firmware…I’m usually a month or two behind the betas anyways.
Fwiw, I got 81% of the taxed figure for my axe3+fc12. Went the fm9 route. That wasnt through reverb though. If you hold out long enough someone will take it at 20% off.

Coming back to the fm9, it's not the reverbs and delays that pose cpu concerns as they run on their own core. The plex, multiband comp and pitch blocks seem to be the big dogs for me. In a pinch a stereo chorus set to triangle -180 is good enough for a dual detune. Multiband comp is great but the input eq on the amp can fix some things too.
I can get stable results running over 80% as long as i dont have a lot of realtime modifiers doing too much on the fly. That's where I find things can get squirrely.

Just about every Fractal gear I've sold has been on Reverb and usually I get 80-90% of retail. There's a lot of buyers who end up moving this stuff to Asia where they don't have a distributor.

I just built about the biggest kitchen sink on my Axe 3 (non turbo) and it's at 71%. It's comp > drive > phaser > amp > cab (dual dynacab) > chorus > EQ > pitch (dual detune) > stereo delay > multi-tap delay (Halo) > plex delay (shimmer) > reverb > enhancer. Realistically though I wouldn't use all that stuff in a preset.

Anyways, FM9 is out for delivery so I'll know for sure how it works in a few hours! If all is good I'll likely list the Axe 3 + FC-12 this weekend.

I’m going to have to schedule 1 day a month I go through and update the Fractal units and if I were smart I’d make an area to sit my pedalboards on to update them without dragging my laptop down on the floor. I think I’m behind on all of them right now.

cool. no Flanger? lol.

I found firmware 11 added a few points to the cpu over fw10.
If you don't need gapless that brings 2% back.

This one is my kitchen sink and it rides the line.

removing the Pitch and having the Chorus as triangle/180 drops it down.

Is it just me or does doing a big kitchen sink preset not really work without a lot more than 8 scenes available? Or do people just use a layout with effects mode and turn blocks on and off manually with kitchen sinks?

It depends on your use case. I rely mostly on an MC8 to disable multiple blocks at a time. I also use expression pedals to alter things like gain, mix level and such.

Both!

Use scenes as main starting points and then go to the effects layout to bring individual blocks in an out.

That's how I do it and it works great.

Gotcha. I've kind of avoided effects mode since it usually means hitting multiple switches to get from one sound to another for me, and I'm too uncoordinated to do that successfully. :giggle:

Interesting. So you're using external devices to access all the block combinations... Is there a way, beyond scenes, to set multiple block statuses at once with a foot switch, on-unit?

Yeah I get it. if you're coming from a traditional pedalboard, then tap-dancing is what you're used to. But also, I think it's good to have the freedom to improvise within a scene rather than just being locked into whatever is set. If you're strategic about it though, you can get to a variety of sounds with only 2-3 taps/

Also, if you have another FC controller or more external switches, the optimal "layout" in my opinion is to have 8 switches just dedicated to scenes and then the rest of the switches for effects bypass/channel switching.

For example, I have an FM9 and I've thought about getting an FC-12. I would leave the switches on the FM9 always in scenes mode and the FC-12 always in effects.

you can also assign the bypass field to another controller like an expression pedal and this can be done for multiple blocks to the same controller.
you could use a volume pedal or a dedicated footswitch

For example if you don't want to use pitch and phaser at the same time, you could have them toggle at the same time.

Right clicking on the bottom right 'bypass' button reveals this:
