Fractal Talk

Playing through the Axe FX 3, the only thing I can think is man I'd love to have an FM3 in a different form factor. That level of power in something closer to the size of a Quad Cortex with more switches would be insane.
Agreed. The 3 footswitches on the FM3 are pretty incredible for what they can do. I’d still like 8 though as it’s a lot of tap dancing. The VP4 spacing is perfectly fine. Give me 2 rows of that. Just makes sense with 8 scenes.

Mines somewhere like that. Somewhat surprised how many people didn’t rate Ohms - I find it pretty solid even if it lacks some absolute classics. Self titled and SNW have grown on me more in the last few years than when they first came out.

I don’t dislike any of their albums although adrenaline doesn’t really feel like a fully fledged deftones album in the way the others do. I like the naivety and excitement/energy that bands have at that stage of their career though.
Gotta say, past few days I've been rinsing Gore. That's what made me go on a Carpenter binge the other day, and also wondered about his toanzzzzz.

My mom loved the Carpenters. :knit

Gore caught everyone off because it’s by far the worst sounding deftones album since adrenaline, and it’s different to the preceding ones (kind of sticks out compared to Diamond Eyes, Koi No Yokan, Ohms and private music which are all way more alike). I’ve come to really enjoy it after getting over the fact the productions a bit duff. It’s solid.

I never thought the production was bad, didn't occur to me I suppose. I got a bit more of an 80s vibe from Gore, like they let those new wave influences in a bit more. Then Ohms kind of went back more to their sound on the previous albums. Private Music kind of sounds like they went back even further to the early 2000's era songwriting.

The last few months I've been deep diving into 2000's music quite a bit. I was born in 83 so I grew up with late 80's and 90's music, and about 10 years ago I started to get really nostalgic and went back to 90's music for several years. I suppose now I'm getting nostalgic for the 2000's? That was a crazy decade for me, started out in high school and ended with a baby. The new Deftones is dropping at just the right time I guess.

Question is do I go to their show next Friday? Answer is probably yes.

Those are very cool, spec-wise. Love the Eclipse, but would like the beefier neck the Skolnick has.
My Eclipse is my version of a modern ‘59. Not sure where it sits comparatively spec wise but it’s my modern classic.

I just love it. But the AS-1 is a 2x4 heavy hitter. I wish everybody could try it. I’m a better player for having one. I hope the QC is still stout. I have an early one that is just killsr. Luck of the draw I think. I immediately ordered two more but ended up sending both back.

The funny thing about ESP, I bought a EC-256 for $249 at GC after sitting on the floor and jamming on one. It just ripped and I was sold on Les Paul’s afterward. Here it is while on vacation…

:hmm:Boo
DUDE! This latest Deftones album is the first one in forever to my ears iirc that has made a mark on me! First three are CLASSIC! The best song Maynard ever sang is on White Pony FFS!

Didn't expect it, but yes, there's really good stuff on there. The guitars sound massive. Vocals thumbs up.

What bothers me though, is the brickwall limiting. I thought the loudness wars were over.

Sounds like a lot of Rich Costey’s other mixes where he’s slammed everything through the desk really hot. He’s been known to cover the meters with tape to avoid anyone getting scared about how hard he’s slamming it. I don’t think it’s a mastering thing, it’s intentionally distorted in the mix (IMO way more than it needs….)

I had an eclipse briefly but it suffered from bad neck dive and I sold it. Later I learned some of them are a full LP width body and I always wanted to try one.

I also had a LTD MH that surprised me with how far it punched above its price tag. ESP got my attention with that one; it was a really great guitar
