Fractal Audio Systems AM4 - Amp Modeler

Fuckballs, H90's are expensive, even used.
They are tbh I sold my H9 Max when I got the VP4 I honestly think it is as good as the Eventide and despite people having go at Fractal about UI usability. I find the VP4 much easier to work with. Of choose if you need the IO options the H90 has them there aren’t other options.

Nah, I don’t need the IO. I just wanted a different flavor of effects.

Sounds great to me, I love it. I think the cab/IR is the most important factor followed by the amp model. I like the Ventoux or the Super Reverb with the 112 open cast cab or a single mic York Twin IR. I haven’t tried it with a Marshall/celestion combo because it’s just not my thing, it’s probably just me but I think 412 celestion IRs make everything sound weird.
I agree. I dont like ANY of the multi-speaker IR's on the Helix (or from York or from Ownhammer). They all sound weird and comb filtered to me. I use the same 1x12 for every amp/ preset.

You can get the HX fuzz face to sound very close to the real thing by using the correct low impedance input setting and turning the gain down from max. However that only gets you the full fuzz tone. Even with the correct impedance it still doesnt clean up like the real thing. Also I find with any FF, real or virtual you need to slap a low gain OD after it to tame the fizz and bump the mids... otherwise it disappears in the mix.

Yeah I realized that I just don’t like multi speaker IRs, or most multi mic IRs. Thin phasey comb filtered mids. It gets even worse when it’s a celestion speaker that already has weird mids. That is enough to make a fuzz pedal sound like garbage. I use 1 IR on all of my presets too, for any amp model. A single mic 112 IR just sounds closest to what I would expect to hear from an amp in the room. I don’t like York’s mixes either for the same reason, but the single mic IRs can be good.

Well im coming to the dark side. Saw a pretty fair price used so I snagged it up, should be here soon. Canceled my QC mini pre order. May or May not be the best move.

After an interesting situation at a gig I realized I definitely need a backup. Got the Tonex one pedal and the AM4 on the way. Should be fun to shoot those out. The Tonex will live on my board. The AM4 may just be a toy or if I get it sounding good my main for lazy days idk. Will see.

If that was to your door that's not bad!

I still like having that warranty tho

That's cheap, compared to what stuff is listed for. There are some enterprising assclowns asking a grand and up.
Yeah there's no way im buying one for more than new. Or even $700, etc.

The warranty would be great and probably worth buying new for most people but I figured I'd try my luck and if it shits the bed my mistake.

If I don't like it I figured I could probably get 500 back

That’s a good price ,IMO the AM4 is worth much more than that if it suits your needs
Yeah I figured it was pretty fair. I knew there was no warranty or whatever and it is what it is but I've been watching the prices here and there. This was actually one of the lowest prices I've seen so I figured might as well

The AM4 is an incredible value proposition!

Over the last year, I've spent more in total on pedals that didn't even end up on my main pedalboard than I did on my AM4. (Even with the G66 price on the AM4, which is often criticised.)

Those damn Lovepedal sales alone probably got me for more that the AM4 last year.

"NEW SPDIF Input Mode option. This setting, available only when INPUT SOURCE is set to SPDIF, determines how incoming SPDIF signals are handled by the AM4 (Left Only, Right Only, L+R Sum, Stereo). The option “LEFT ONLY” will be of special interest to those using the AM4 in a 4CM configuration with the VP4, as it can be used to reduce overall latency."

I see this helps those wanting to use 4CM with the VP4. As someone who is currently going guitar -> VP4 -(SPDIF)> AM4, is there a reason why I'd want to change? I like having the stereo inputs on the VP4 to feed into the AM4. I guess one may want it in order to have maximum flexibility of pre- and post-amp effects. Any other reason?
