Fractal Audio Systems AM4 - Amp Modeler

I'd check out the cab section. Sometimes the preset loads with a condenser mic (which I'm not a huge fan of).

There are so many amp models to choose from so look around! If you don't like one, don't dwell on it. Move on to another model.

Which ones have you tried so far?

Just getting started here...only tried a few amps by themselves. I figure if I could get tones I was happy with from the 11R and the Amplifire, I should be able to make this work for me. I plugged in an Ownhammer GNR favorite of mine at the last minute last night and heard some improvement there...haven't had a chance to follow up yet.

I was just a little surprised at the results while playing through the factory presets...I was expecting to be awestruck and it fell a little short.

I'm optimistic though...gonna be fun figuring it out.

Start with an IR you know and like and grab an amp model you enjoy in real life. Amplifire Marshall styled stuff was great and if that's your bag, especially higher gained stuff; FAS JVMs are stellar.

OH GNR is my bag.
raw bold 1 is one of my favs, along with RAW D545-01 and R121-RAW-whatever

try the attached.
cab 1 is the 545. It's brighter and nastier. I use that to adjust aggressiveness or if my speakers are screaming.

Since I’m one of those people who always want to be able to run preamps, is it possible to set up an amp blocks expert parameters to somewhat do what Leon does in this old video, using the tube pre model to just add power amp coloration?

Yes, all those power amp settings he has in the video are available in expert mode on the AM4.

Speaker impedance is under a different area labeled "Impedance" and not on the power amp section though

Thanks I'll give them a try!

I have a lot to learn here, but I can already see the potential...getting some good stuff on my own now with the GNR IRs. I know I'll get there...just need to figure it all out. So many damn options!

That JVM IS a great amp, btw!

just did this with the AM4 for guitar and bass.
at 1:30 ish there are 5 seconds that NSFW

Sounds fantastic!

UPDATE: Just wanted to check back in and undo some of the negativity of my original post about the AM4 (mostly user error). After spending some quality hours with it I'm getting the most killer tones I've ever had (love the Wreck) and still just scratching the surface (and being my first foray into Fractal land I have an awful lot to learn). Very happy that I chose to go for it...thanks guys!

Glad you found what you were looking for! :banana

Out of curiosity, did you identify any particular cause to your initial unsatisfactory tones? Or was it simply a case of dialing it in for your specific guitar and tastes, as is the case with most amps and guitar gear?

The wrecker models are amazing. I could probably do 90% of what I need with the Express and the volume knob on my guitar. That model is one of the best amps I've played, digital or real.

Ok this is incredible
The video with the fretting hand , the details moving hands
Its like lord of the Rings / Frank Zappa
Is that you singing too Ed?
It’s catchy a hell and the guitar tone and playing kills
No the singing like the video is me learning AI.

“All” I did was all the music (compose, arrange, produce and play) and silly lyrics lol

The guitars and bass as I said earlier is AM4 and a JST M1 (Chinese Tyler)
Bass is a Sadowsky Metro 5 string.

Additional stuff used was…
Superior Drummer from drum sounds
Korneff Siemens EQ plug to add top end to the guitars.

I forget what I use for buds processing like a SSL compressor.
