They can cause they purchased Personus in 2023 (Studio one), includes amp models and efx

Interesting development, and I mostly wonder “Why”.
Marketing instrument for their current core products?, gateway to Studio one?, or is there a bigger plan at play?

Are they anticipating on the brains of mobile devices becoming a part of “day to day rigs”?
Next TM FR is also an interface, and together with a phone becomes a competitor for Katana/Catalysts?
Software versions of their Tmp platform?

If they can do it without a ton of development cost, probably just to try to make the brand appeal to the huge swath of folks that view themselves as producers, and play guitar mostly as a means to an end?
 
Gateway to sell you more digital products, and also as a kind of brand awareness/PR move.

UA did something similar with LUNA, except they took the route of building a DAW from scratch. I think it's way smarter for Fender to acquire a more developed and grown up DAW to use. The only issues is the limitations on this free version mean its a much less enticing proposition than just using GarageBand/LUNA or even (sigh) Reaper, as it doesn't even allow MIDI (let alone 3rd party plugins or more than a handful of tracks).

It's pretty common for people to write and make music on iPads these days. The iPad version of Logic came out 2 years ago and is something like $5 a month. GarageBand has been available way longer and has that "intuitive beginner user experience" pretty much perfected.

Yeah, it’s pretty narrow atm, besides the “all platforms part”.
Studio one doesn’t have a mobile version at all, while this does run on S1 framwork….maybe this is a “minimal viable product” with a backlog behind it that we will also see branded as S1 in a full version.

An iPad and a decent interface is infinitely more powerful than what I spent over a grand on 20 or so years ago. So yeah I think it’s a big factor.
 
Looks like a really cool option for newer guitarists. They'd need an interface and sure enough Fender offers a little one for $80 which looks pretty slick. So if you don't mind using an app you can get a Micro Mustang type deal for under $100.

I think that's a holdover from the Mustang days. Highly doubt they're debuting any net new models on this free multi-OS platform before moving them to TMP and its dedicated DSP.

You're probably right. I just want more amps, and more Fender amps, but they apparently don't think all that highly of their own history. :cool:

I will never tire of making that observation.

Which is why they released a Fender-branded DAW for multiple platforms that exclusively offers Fender amp/cab/effects models right down to the visual design of each?!?

I dunno. My sense is there are still loads of kids that play the guitar, just very few consider themselves to be, or aspire to be, guitarists. Loads of kids that are in band and chorus casually make music on iPads; and in my kids school ALL of them learn some cowboy chords (and have to write a song with them) on guitar. Public school in the US. I constantly have one or more guitars out on loan to friends of my kids that just want to dink around with recording on their iPad.

Maybe Fender’s thought is “if they see that we are in that world, and they see we have a much wider range of fun instruments in the price range their parents are willing to spend,…”
