Essential items for a modeler: OEMs please take note (aka Table Stakes)

- Usual amp model suspects.
- Humanly-spaced switches (I'm talking at you, QC). I'd rather have 4 switches per row than 5 ultra-cramped ones.
- Synth (everyone does amp modelling just fine, give us something exciting!)
- Flexible switch assign (long press, current number, etc).

Capture capability
Global blocks
Efficient IR management
Viable PC editing
Bluetooth control
No dependency upon internet connection
Generic power supply requirement

Personally - cool effects modifiers like LFOs and dynamic control, fast switching (or a useful way around it), footswitching flexibility, XLR and 1/4” outputs (preferably the option to leave one at a fixed output level), pitch effects beyond octave and simple harmony.

To the amp list compiled by Orv:
JVM
VH4
Orange. Rockerverb would be the assumed choice but an OR of some sort would be great \m/

If it has microphone input, vocals oriented effects. At least harmonies that sound natural.

Fuzzes that actually sound like the one that's being modeled (at least no Big Muff in Helix sounds like the real thing).

As others said, polyphonic synths.

Poly pitch.

Great reverbs.

Some unique effects, not just covering the standard ones.

Assuming all channels:
Mesa Boogie MKIIC+
Mesa Boogie MKIV
Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier
Peavey 5150 Block
Peavey 5150II
EVH 5150III
Marshall JCM800
Marshall Superlead/Superbass
Fender Deluxe Reverb
Fender Twin Reverb

This is nearly identical to the main amps I use in the AxeFX, just replace the Deluxe with a Plexi.

If I’ve been reading forums correctly, “Table Stakes” seems to mean:
  • A model of every amp ever conceived of by mankind
  • Zero footswitches
  • 50 footswitches
  • 20” touchscreen
  • No touchscreen
  • AI and machine learning… but we don’t know why
  • A full DAW
  • That one effect 99% of players have never heard of and don’t care about, but is essential for one person who will complain endlessly of its absence
  • Small enough to carry in my pocket
  • Cost < $99
PLUS:
  • One additional requirement that you never even dreamed of before, but some guy on a forum will rant about for years

You forgot negative boot time. It needs to be on and ready to go before you even think about turning it on.
