Let’s see if this warrants its own thread. New pedal from ENGL, seems to be digital as you can load IRs and such. Anyone getting one and comparing to other hi-gain amp in a box digital pedals?

Really like that there is separate EQs available for the two channels even if it’s not really needed for me in the physical amps.

Looks like 249 euros on Thomann so not prohibitively expensive.

Yep, I just watched a couple of videos about it and really liked what I heard. It seems to be a direct competitor to the pedals from UAD and TC. If I were interested in such a device at the moment, I would certainly go for the ENGL. I don't need a pedal, but I would buy a plug-in version of it straight away.







 
With all these "amp-in-a-box" pedals popping up recently, I can't help but contemplate what if Fractal Audio would release something like this with just the Amp + Cab / IR blocks..

I usually have the same thought but after buying and then selling a bunch of them over the years I finally now remember to remind myself that for the price of any two or three of them you can buy an FM3 and it comes with all the amps plus the sweet effects and routing etc that those pedals don't have.
So Fractals response is probably 'Yea, go ahead and put those one-amp-in-a-box pedals out there at one third the FM3 price we will be there for the buyers who start looking for more...'

I love devices like this. Today I tried the Opus for the first time. After a firmware update, I started playing through my standard studio cans and was blown away. I played for two solid hours just scrolling through factory presets. Beyond Fractal, I’ve never cared for presets. This thing is amazing to me.

Seeing new products in this category is great. I really like Engl. I had a Ironball SE head and it was incredible. I never should have sold it.
I bet this pedal kicks ass.

Like with everything it would be its own compromise. VP4 size vs something small like the ENGL, all the menu scrolling etc taking away from more immediate adjustment.

Still want to see it happen though, even if I'd rather see a next gen "FM4" that is a full multifx unit.

I agree in most cases but how would endless encoders work here? Adding a screen or LEDs to show the value would probably increase the price a bit and I don’t see the big advantage. It’s the amp controls that differ depending on what channel is engaged if I’ve understood it correctly.

Thinking about it a bit more yeah it’s an inconvenience not seeing the values dialed in, but at the price point and only being two channels I believe I’d personally be able to stomach it.

Yeah it would likely have to be a bit larger, more expensive pedal with LED rings around encoders. I don't think it's a big issue with these type of pedals where you aren't going to have a pile of presets or anything.

It's a bigger annoyance on pedals like my Source Audio Collider, Strymon Volante, Zelzah or Deco where the likelyhood of 4+ presets is realistic since they have so many ways to dial them in.
