I'm always interested in solid state analog amps like this, so this really, well, grabbed my interest lol. Idk though, I have mixed feelings.

Sort of competes directly with the recent Orange Gain Baby / Tour Baby / Dual Baby heads, but at half the price and smaller and lighter, and with a built-in digital spring reverb... but it's Class D (those are AB), which can be fine or be... iffy depending on how it's done. I don't know what to expect from EHX in that department, except that their little power amp pedals don't seem good.

But could be a cool grab-and-go or backup amp if you need more wattage than a Quilter Superblock etc (though I bet the Quilter's power amp is way better, assuming you like or don't mind the current feedback design). And I do think it sounds good! It kinda has that fuzzy quality that the Orange solid states have, but with a little more clarity.

Reverb isn't as good as I was expecting tbh. Doesn't sound awful, and is actually probably very usable, but it feels like they should have just gone for a plate sound or something rather than a spring reverb that sounds less like a spring reverb than the spring modes on their cheapest reverb pedals.

Also, they make a point to say it's good with modelers, but that 100 watt rating really gives me pause there for anything outside of home use. Having the flat (?) frequency response of going straight into the FX return is a plus, but if this uses the same cheap off the shelf Class D module as almost everything else, I feel like anyone would either pay 1/3 of the price and go for a 200 watt BAM200 (dealing with it not being flat), or pay a little more and go for a 170 watt Powerstage.

Way ahead of their time apparently. I still have mine and hook it up once a year or so to make sure it still works then shove it back in the emergency extras bin.

a board with a small modeler and one of these dosent sound like a bad option at all for a lot of situations, if i was gigging again i would definitely grab one

A BAM200 is like half the price and double the wattage. I somehow doubt the EHX is built with quality in mind.
Is the BAM200 any good for guitar, though? I've thought about buying one and a small 2x10 cab for a portable bass rig, but I play guitar most of the time and being able to play both through it would be cool!

I use mine to amplify my modelers into guitar cabs and it’s great at that. I’ve never used it as a strait guitar amp though…more or less just a power amp.

I am actually in the market for small solid state amp , I'm fine with both - head or combo .... So I will watch this EHX amp with great interest. :)

But for now, I agree with comment above - there are better and more pricey options ....

But I kinda like this EHX head for now. :D Again, I will look at it with great interest. :)
