I tried to do a Whois lookup on the dumble.com domain but it just says registration name is private. I have no idea why whoever is setting this up would be so protective about who actually is behind all this. Maybe they just want to avoid all hate mail?

This will either play out two ways:
  • Cheaper made Dumbles are going to become a thing.
  • They will make $5-8K Dumbles for the people who want to "play authentic" and have the deep pockets to play that game. Would not be surprised if the amps were "shadow built" by some of the known Dumble clone makers.
IMO the Dumble clone market is a real "fools are parted from their cash" thing. There's no way that a Dumble style amp costs more to make than the plethora of extremely complex tube amps sold by various other boutique brands that sell in the $3-5K range.

Yeah that was a bit buried there. “My dear friends Drew Berlin and Matt Swanson now own the company, and they’re going to be building a lot of really nice Dumble amps.”

I have absolutely no idea who they are. Is Matt Swanson related to Ron Swanson?

Not usually my thing, but im just here for the drama!!🤣

the most interesting thing about Dumble by some distance was the nutter that built them. You take him out and you just get a sort of (flame suit on) average sounding amp.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Just another circuit on the long list of circuits out there. I’d imagine a large part of the point of owning a Dumble is having Alexander build it for you. How it sounds and even behaves is secondary.

I would wager that the Dumble clone market largely wouldn't even exist if everyone who wants one could buy an off the shelf Dumble, even if it cost $10K. There's clearly more than enough people willing to pay that kind of money for an amp.

I think new Dumble's that are built by someone else are just going to drive up the price of the old originals though. They're basically just a Dumble badged clone. Sure they'll sell plenty at absolutely hideous prices still though, possibly even significantly more than were ever sold as one off builds.

Just get a Ceriatone at that point.

Seems kinda dumb to me. How on earth did they get the rights to the name? New owners must have had deep pockets and whoever was running D's estate must've seen dollar signs. Dumble wanted the brand to die with him :idk

It's all fun and games until Gibson buys them out in a year or 2.

I don’t know, that doesn’t fit with interviews I’ve read of some very famous guitarists describing their first experience with them in jaw dropping life changing terms.

Also, I believe it isn’t just “a” circuit, but rather each one was specifically custom built to the playing style of the guitarist it was built for.

That’s the part I never understood about the market for them. What made the real original ones special to their original owners is that the amp was custom designed just for them and the way they play. So it doesn’t seem like they would be nearly as special for anyone else
