My DSL 100HR making wired cooking sounds I suspect its valve gone bad?

I was playing and sound disappeared … switch std by on/off ,cycle through channels, plug guitar direct but nothing…. After maybe 10min sound came back…..

On Mon it goes to tech but dose any of you know what it is or had similar experience?

All my threads seem to be about broken stuff…. (Sorry)

Here is little clip and me being frustrated…

Not 100% sure but wasn’t there a problem with the way the tubes were connected to the boards in the earlier DSL 100 ‘s that was causing this sort of problem ?

The JCM2000s had plenty of issues on pretty much all the models. It has nothing to do with where it's built.

Not 2005 & after. Build has everything to do with amplifiers.
How could anyone look at these 2 chassis from a component level alone and say they're "the same".
The fact that the current general public knows no difference suggests ignorance rather than facts.
Ive had my JCM 2K for 20 years, who here has the problem ? Not me.
There was another guy here just weeks ago had 2 bad dsl's out of the box and posted "what a great amp" it was.
Distorted sense of reality at best.

Sounds like a bad preamp tube. Probably doesn’t need a trip to the tech.

The H is built better than the HR.

I’ve had two DSL heads for ages and one DSL limited edition Combo for a couple of years and they are fine.👍

The decline in Marshall build quality began with the a Origin series (so, yes, that includes their 20w Studio heads). They’re just not well built.

The last Marshall that was roadworthy and reliable was the DSL40C and the DSL100H.

The DSL40CR and DSL100HR had problems with the switching and now transformers.

The DSL2000s had issues unless you have the revision 20 PCB and the DSL100H has improved tone over them anyway.

I can’t recommend the DSL2000, DSL40CR or DSL100HR. Get a used DSL40C or DSL100H instead.

My son has had a Marshall Origin 20 head for a couple of years.
It’s been fine and sounds really good through a twin stack of 4 X 12 cabs 👍🍺

Well, I’m not talking about if they’re liked. I’m just saying they’re not designed or built very well.

Finally took it to my bassist and one of the power tubes failed. I did a gig on Fri and struggling to hear myself, my master vol was 3/4 up and still could not hear myself.

I need to buy new one…. Marshall own brand £84 including delivery….

Which brands would you recommend getting?

Mullard reissue sound the best. Tube Amp Doctor are good. JJ are bottom tier. Especially avoid their E34L as they are harsh.

Well, their EL34 is ok-ish, it’s the E34L that’s utter trash. I’ve found JJs to be unreliable. I’m thinking they make the OEM Marshall tubes but don’t quote me on that.

The only JJ tube that I actually like is the ECC803.
