Does UA have enough pedals to put out a Multi-FX/Modeler?

Every pedal UA has ever released is a multi-effects pedal artificially neutered to run a single algorithm.

That's good news in my book because his ideas about "keeping them simple" by not having MIDI etc was just plain disinformation. As if a mobile app requiring pedal registration etc is easier.

Maybe that will help push UA in a different direction. Still not expecting a multifx unit but maybe at least something different.

Yeah, I always thought it was funny that some of the people who were specifically anti-MIDI-being-there-at-all used arguments like "that stuff is nerdy, I want it simple", but were apparently okay with apps and registration to access and unlock all of the features.

I guess some people's eyes glaze over when having to find a CC # in a single page chart, or knowing that's something someone else might choose to do, but mine do when having to sign up for yet another account, to download yet another app, to make yet another bluetooth pairing lol

I avoided midi for longer than I’d care to admit because it seems way more intimidating than it is. When I finally decided to try to set up some channel switching via midi, I geared up for it like I was going to be diffusing a bomb, and ended up sadly disappointed that it took about 30 seconds of programming after spending two minutes reading a manual.

So I get it, from a normie perspective. It can seem quite nerdy and intimidating.

But, that’s no defense for UA’s omission, because I don’t think anyone using it now, would have avoided purchasing it if there were a couple extra ports on it.

The stigma probably comes from old MIDI controllers. My first one was the Behringturd FCB1010. The only thing that made programming it bearable was that someone had written an editor in Java that worked on your computer and then you'd send the configuration to the board.

MIDI is just so much simpler today with user friendly touchscreen units from LuminiteFx, comprehensive computer editors from Morningstar, or various brands offering mobile apps for configuration.

Wireless MIDI is also very cool.

haha right, it is way simpler than people make it seem, but it can definitely be intimidating at first, and seem archaic and weird lol

But yeah, it would be totally optional, so it is very strange to me that they didn't include it, especially with the normalization of 3.55mm TRS MIDI jacks. Honestly, I feel like they didn't include it because they clearly want people in their app and account ecosystem, and MIDI would potentially get around that. I don't think that's even conspiratorial thinking when certain on-pedal features like the additional cab options are locked without registration. But then I think a lot of people would have been happy with even a more restricted MIDI implementation, e.g. just letting you change channels and non-app-exclusive parameters.

Ironically, a lot of the even older MIDI controllers and interfaces were very simple to use and program, probably because they were generally higher end pieces of gear aimed at less-tech-savvy working musicians. But yeah so much of the 90s and 00s stuff is just awful, not even getting into improper and nonstandard use of SysEx.

I want an Axe Edit style app but for my pedalboard. Imagine Axe Edit but it's controlling real pedals on your board.

UA has some fantastic algos IMO. But they need to get their heads out of their asses and offer them in a compelling value-focused product with midi. The one offs like Orion, Heavenly and Nevermore were a peek at realizing that when they went on sale for $99-$129 in America. They are charging too much money for Golden Rev and Starlight products and variants while missing key features. We need midi and 128 presets. Produce a product that has that and offers complete delay and reverb algos for $500-$600. Do the same for the amps.

Better yet, spare us unnecessary additional AD/DA conversions and offer a complete combo of everything at $999.

Why would they charge $999 for "everything" when they can charge $400 for a single effect and people will buy it? I'm not saying you're wrong, but if I was the owner of a business trying to maximize profit I know which direction I would take.
