Do ya like high gain amps and want to give ToneX a spin?

I posted this in the main ToneX thread but noted after that not everyone checks every thread regularly-

The condensed version is after I poked at IK/ToneX a little bit as a result of me not staying up to date on their updates and reading shit on the internet without actually trying it myself (since it was updated), @IK Multimedia tossed the gauntlet in my direction and said "Here, if ya think it sucks so much, try it for yourself" (not a direct quote, it was actually a very kind offer when he didn't have to at all). And he didn't stop there, he's also offering up some capture packs for TGF members!

There's 2 camps I'd love see get hooked up-

If ToneX has been your thing since it was released and you love the platform and want to expand your cap collection, now's your chance!

And to those who are on the fence, specifically those who may have reservations about the software after reading posts on gear forums. This is a perfect opportunity to get some professionally made caps and check it out for yourself. It definitely sold me on it, pretty damn quickly, at that.

Really, the only thing I'd prefer not to see is someone snagging a free pack with the intent of shitting all over it.

The Metal Gods pack is up for offer right now.

We don't have unlimited packs to give away, so if high gain isn't your thing, maybe sit this round out until another pack better suited for ya gets offered up. You'll need the software to run them, but ToneX CS is free - https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/tonex/index.php?p=freesoftware

I figure we can find out who wants one and if it's more than the amount of packs Pete is offering, we'll figure out how to divy them up after. Pete/IK aren't asking for anything in return, but I do think it'd be nice to report back with a few words about your experience with it.

Personally, I've only been offered free gear once before in the 30 years I've been on guitar/gear forums (some Danelectro true bypass pedals to try before they hit the market) and think it's pretty badass that Pete is tossing these in our direction!

I have been considering picking up a ToneX One to try IKMM out again to run through my Stomp XL loop. When it first came out, I grabbed the ToneX CS and I just couldn't take it. I never had an issue with the tones once you found a good one, but the UI in the software is what killed it for me to pursue further. I have read that it's much better now, and I kind of understand that if people can upload at will, it can become a cesspool of crappy tones mixed in with good ones.

I have been wanting to give them another try, but I can pass on this one for other's to enjoy and wait for the next round if there is one. By then, I should have a real pedal to work with vs just the software.

Thank you for the offer Drew & IK!!

Yeah, I wasn't thrilled with my first experience with the software but can't find anything to gripe about with it at this point. I've still yet to explore the user caps because I can get lost for frickin hours on just the caps I have now, specifically the Satch Dragon caps from IK and @Deadpan's JEL caps.

What's your general tonal palette?

I'm mainly Marshall JCM800/Plexi and Mesa/Dual Rec's flavors. Anything that can cover 60's-70's rock to 90's & 00's Grunge/Alt Rock, that's mainly what our cover band plays so most of my HX presets are variations of those tones.

One of my Achilles heels in tones to get my stomp to sound like what's in my head is a great Plexi tone. Not sure why but it's probably that there is a combination of many different Plexi tones out there and I have yet to play a real 60's or 70's cranked 100w Plexi Super Lead, lol...

Well you may have some luck coming your way!

I believe there's possibility of the next capture pack being Mesa-flavored and....I got a little gear trade happening this Saturday that won't put a real 60's or 70's 100w Plexi in my hands, but prettttty, prettttty close to it. It's not 100w, but the year 1968 certainly plays a role in the design of it and that's all I'm saying for now, outside of being anxious to make some caps of it!

I gotta get the Satch pack for sure. IK Peter, PLEASE tell me updates are coming to ipadOS version! I love using Logic on my iPad with Tonex
I have gotten a lot of mileage out of the Satch pack. Can't play for beans after the surgery, but am still plonking away with exercises and that Dragon set of captures are great; I do still change out cabs and use the VIR Greenback cab a lot and they still sound amazing.

Man, I haven't even tried changing cabs or the VIR stuff. I need to dig into that, for sure.

Seriously? I can write a list.

Anyway, courteous of IK to provide packs for free. (y)

My use case for it is pretty simple; I want to snag a bunch of amps I don't have in a Fractal unit to record with (and most likely throw together a really portable 'emergency rig'). Fractal is my one-stop shop for effects and I don't see that changing any time soon. I just need the software to load up and allow me to access my caps quickly. As I started poking around I found the search/filtering function pretty useful and outside of those basic functions, I'm not really looking for it to do anything else at this time.
