Do I need a DI box?

Im going to say no but here is my situation and looking for opinions.

About to record an EP at home and send it off for mixing. I will be miking my own amp/cab in a subpar environment so I want to also send him a clean signal.

So far my band has released one single and for that song I sent only a clean signal and he mixed it well. It's just kind of a backup or even blend options for him.

My clean signal is directly into my small Motu interface.

Instead of a DI box I have a splitter cable that will allow me to run my SM57 into one channel and my clean signal guitar into the other channel.

Thoughts and opinions?

Depending on where you split the signal you might want to be careful of impedances. A DI box would potentially be a better way to split things if you want a good DI signal

Yep, might as well get a good DI box. They're useful to have around.

Do you think thats as good as the countryman 85?

Any BOSS pedal or buffered pedal will help with impedance.
A DI box is a useful tool anyone should have at least one.

Never used the 85 so can't say, but I do have the older R. Neve model that came before the one I posted and it works like a charm.
