Distortion + Sound Demo Clip

Finally got an interface to record again and decided to make a sound clip of the tones I’m digging from the MXR Distortion +

All guitars on this track are:

Strat -> MXR Distortion + -> TC SCF -> MXR Carbon Copy -> Vox ac30 -> fm3 (ac30 DynaCab)

Not the best recording but it gets the idea across. A few flubs, and I forgot to turn off the default compression and reverb in GarageBand and it kinda built up on the track :facepalm. I think I went too heavy layering guitars, but it was fun.

There are 3 rhythm guitar tracks - hard left, hard right, center.

The Distortion + is on the whole time for every part.

Mostly wanted to post this because I think it’s a misunderstood pedal. A lot of people seem to think it just sounds like Randy Rhoads. Honestly I did too and I never thought I would like it until I actually tried it

i dig it, but i already love micro amps :D its a great rock tone with the added nudge of the dirt! how much distortion did you use from the pedal?

Here are the amp and pedal settings. The amp is just on the edge of breakup here on the Top Boost channel.

The D+ controls are funny, OUTPUT is sort of a fullness control and DISTORTION is sort of like tone/presence

Nicely done Met! I love the crunch tones and overall arrangement. :beer

These pedals (and the 250) are their best for that mild crunch and stacking thing, imo.

Thanks! I should have mentioned, this is an arrangement of part of a song Jonathan Coulton wrote for a show I played a couple years ago.

I’ve got a 250 coming on Wednesday and I think I might re-do the guitar parts from this track with it to compare the two

That sounded nothing like I expected! Very nice!

Thanks! It didn’t sound anything like I expected either. I always thought these just sounded like Randy Rhoads, haha.

It’s got its issues, it’s quirky AF, and tricky to dial in, but when you find the sweet spot it really shines. In that way it reminds me a lot of using vintage fuzz pedals.
