I get that - I was just trying to understand how similar the tone is when standing in the room with the rig as opposed to the recorded sound which is getting help from the microphone. As you said, carefully positioning mic is part of it.
My 1959HW sits on top of a 1960AV. Even with the Fryette ps-100 attenuating, it still needs a decent amount of volume to get cooking and sounding good; well past bedroom tone. Having said that, the louder I played, the better it sounded.
When you hear recordings such as yours (or say the recording to Cold and Ugly, off their Opaite EP), I've wondered, "Is it the mic that helps create that sound, or would it sound similar just being right there next to the rig; club volume helping open the amp.
