Craigslist Horror Stories!

Just sold an EVH 2X12 on Craigslist. A very positive experience with a cool dude.

But it made me think it might be cool to see who has the weirdest, wildest or shittiest CL experiences to share!

Best deals might be cool too…

I’d imagine this is the top of the heap!

I’ve always had great luck with CL. Total different story than FB Marketplace, where it seems everyone looking at the gear is actually just looking for someone to talk to.

One asshole tried to hang out with me after I sold him my Valveking 112.

When I sold my Mesa express the dude was at my crib for over on hour hemming and hawing avout whether or not to buy it with a lot of chatting betwixt “testing”

It was super annoying but I was eager to sell

I guess that’s probably the closest thing to a “horror story” I can think of at the moment, typically things go pretty smoothly

Opposite of what the thread is asking, but one of the coolest CL deals I’ve had was when I bought my Mesa thiele, dude was in Ft Collin’s which is about an hour and a half from Denver. We happened to have a show coming up there though and dude delivered the cab to the venue during sound check (I put my faith out there and didn’t bring a cab up lol). He then stayed for the whole show, cool guy!

I’ve been to Denver once in the Army, and went to Ft. Collins, and during that trip made a point to go to Boulder cuz I love Stephen King and that town is in The Stand. Badass place, I fell in love with it. Me and my buddies were bar hopping and found ourselves on a street that was legit like a homeless neighborhood tents and all - that was sketchy af

I couldn’t smoke weed at the time but the beer and bars were 10/10

I acquired a PRS SE singlecut with P90s, didn't really bond with it, so I put it on CL for $250. Solid deal for whoever ended up with it. So a guy hits me up and we agree on a time for him to come by. I setup a Princeton with the PRS in the living room, and started doing a setup on another guitar while I waited. Dude shows up a half hour late, but whatever. Sees me working on the other guitar and says "oh, you're one of those". Again, whatever. So he plays the PRS for a couple minutes and starts nitpicking everything "wrong" with the guitar, and he only thinks it's worth $180. With each comment, I'd just respond with "yes, I took that into account when pricing the guitar". Then he starts in with the idea that I probably damaged the guitar when working on it, you know, by messing with the truss rod. 🤦 At this point I'd pretty much had enough and hit him with the "look, I know what this guitar is worth, and I don't even need to sell it, I'd honestly rather keep it than give it away". So he feels the deal slipping and then complains that he can't hear what the guitar sounds like because it is "too clean". So I plug in a TS9, but that made the guitar "too noisy". I explain that P90s are a lil rough around the edges compared to HB's, but he's not having it, guitar is only worth $150 now. At this point, I asked him to leave. He did, but then called me 2 days later asking if I would take $200, so I told him his new price was now $300 for having to put up with his bullshit. He went away but came back again a few days later with a "$200 FINAL OFFER". I told him I donated the guitar to Salvation Army, he could go look there if he still wanted it. This is one of the reasons I rarely sell gear anymore.

Sold it a couple days later to a nice gentleman, for $250.

Don't even get me started on all the band audition CL posts I've replied to.

i once took a really clean mesa studio .22 in to trade in. the shop offered me something like $200, and i told them to take a flying fuck at a rolling donut.

so i listed it on craigslist for $400- figuring a) its a good amp, b) id likely get $400.

email comes in- 'that amps not worth $400. ill give you $300'.

i reply 'okay, don't buy it.'

another email 'i can find those all day for less.'

i respond 'then you should buy one of those.'

another email comes in: 'whats the lowest you'd take?'

i reply '$400. if youd like it, glad to sell it. otherwise, stop emailing me.'

another effing email 'well you dont have to be rude about it.'

i stopped responding.

a day later, he started again. i tjinkni emailed him something like 'dude, fuck off.'

Can’t make this shit up lol
