FixedThat really should have been a Marshalls vs. Marshall's joke. Missed opportunity. I am disappoint.
P.S. @ $3K SLO vs. $22 dress, my tastes aren't that refined and hers aren't that cheap.![]()

Yup.... On a LP....the String Butler slays.String Butler sighting!
I agree. The neck on those is like as wide as a 7-string. I don't know who the hell had the idea that was what people wanted. And not on just one model, but an entire lineup.Terrible neck profile and tiny frets. The rest is less of a problem. Robot tuners suck as well. If you do like them they are very cheap .
I had one on my SG and it did improve tuning stability a lot. (Corollary: there was a lot of room for improvement.) But I recently changed string gauges and tightened up the truss rod, and now that guitar is doing OK without the String Butler.Yup.... On a LP....the String Butler slays.![]()
Funny enough, my LP was not bad at all with regard to tuning stability...once in a while the G string would bind, but that's it. I just decided to give it a go after watching a YT vid on it. The Butler makes a set of 10s feel like 9s...super slinky. I never took it off. It's been prob 7 years now that it's been on there.I had one on my SG and it did improve tuning stability a lot. But I recently changed string gauges and tightened up the truss rod, and now that guitar is doing OK without the String Butler.Too many variables changed at once (was it the truss rod tension or the string gauges vs. the nut slots?) to be sure of the actual problem(s) vs. the actual solutions(s). All I can say for sure is that when the guitar was set up poorly, the String Butler helped to compensate. Definitely a good tool to have your arsenal for a guitar that's putting up a fight.

They are actually better built that usual.I think next time I’m in the market for a LP I’ll be looking for one of these.
One thing I can’t tell though is if this one I played just happened to be a really good one or if they’re all similarly good.
Individual instruments from years that had good core specifications because they are the starting point. You really do need to go over everything and make sure. I’ve played great and terrible from all eras. What's the legend/lore on the Mythology of The Best Built Gibson Years??
Any truth to this? Partial truth? Some exaggerations?
While hunting for some Gibsons over the years I have seen this topic come up
quite a bit.![]()
