Counterfeits

Is there a thread on this form dealing specifically with counterfeit guitars? Or is that against the rules?

Second question. The guitar is only a counterfeit if it's actually putting the name of another company on their headstock trying to fool people into thinking it's something it's not, correct? Like my agile PS 900 clearly says agile on the headstock but it looks a lot like a PRS guitar. That's not a counterfeit. The counterfeit is like my Chibson or my Chender.

My first guitar was a Gibbon SG.

I prefer a good crack myself... ;)

Correct. The Agile would be a copy. My son has an SX (also a Rondo brand) LP copy.

My two favorite guitars are from Rondo. Agile PS 900 and my black Douglas Hawker. Given the agile has a upgraded bridge and pickups.

The Chibson was a great deal from Temu.

And now I have a Chender from Temu.

It plays incredibly well. Definitely going to put a new bone nut on it though. It was its biggest weakness. Pickups were amazingly quiet for single coils.

My biggest disappointment purchase was the Aklot multi-scale guitar. The place just fine but the electronics and pickups are so bad. So disappointed with it I'm almost thinking of just selling it for whatever I can get. Not sure that I want to go through the process of upgrading the pickups and other electronics.

I have an Agile Intrepid from 2013, I haven't really kept up with the company too much. Last I heard Kurt was selling the brand and inventory.

Is that ES in the top Pic a Chibson?

Can't say I'm on board with obvious fakes like the chibsons etc. Pretty schnidey supporting that kind of thing imo.
Well in my defense I didn't know they were counterfeits until they showed up at my door. But they play so nice I didn't want to get rid of them. Gibson and fender it didn't lose any money from this because there's no way in hell that I would buy the real thing because they charged to damn much

That it is. The biggest negative about that guitar is the unpotted pickups are very microphonic. But recorded through headphones it's got a great full sound to it.

You didn't know a chibson from Temu was a counterfeit until it showed up at your door? 😂

I didn’t have a problem with fakes because I took for granted that people would research their purchases as much as I do. However, I heard a story on Phil McKnight’s podcast about someone selling their chibson and then finding out the purchaser attempted to resell the guitar as a real Gibson. His solution was to brand the word Fake on any counterfeits he comes across. I’m thinking to do something similar if I wind up picking up one of these eBay guitars.

I absolutely hate fakes. I found a fake Les Paul in a pawn shop. They didn't know it was fake. I told they shouldn't just take my word for it and they should pull it from the rack and research it before they sell it. They did that and found out that it was truly a fake. They got burned on it. They marked it way down and put a sign on it that it was a fake when they put it back on the rack. I commend them for doing that but IMHO they should have just ate it and destroyed the guitar. It is technically illegal.

I am no fan of copies either. At far as I know PRS has never given any guitar company permission to copy his body shape but I have seen some copies out there. I am guessing that he hasn't gone after them because they are in anther country and that really complicates suing them for it. There are plenty of legit guitars out there from the original manufacturers at many price points. Just buy the real thing. It will be a better guitar.
