Clones and copies?

FWIW I had a blast living in what was considered the third world during part of my early childhood. Highly recommend :love

(Context: I lived in Hermosillo from the age of 3-7, vivid memories of that whole era. Later in life i found out there was a serious deliberation of my dad either taking the job there in MX or else the fam moving to Sierra Leone to. Different mineral project  )

Another non sequiter, I’m certainly no globe trotter but I’ve been fairly lucky to travel (and even live) certain parts of the globe outside the US

I realize they’ve had some economic downturn, but by far the absolute sketchiest place I’ve visited outside the US was Athens. SUBSTANTIALLY more sketch than any third world country I’ve visited/lived in

Sketchiest coming from Germany in the 80s for me was Watts after midnight, and being in East LA on a Sunday afternoon.

That made Mumbai or Hong Kong a walk in the park. And I don’t mean the tourist-y bits

but I have a deep desire to visit Thailand mainly for the cuisine

Fwiw, the best cuisine I have ever enjoyed has been in Japan (have been there 3 times). Just incredible. Close second: India - but I've only been there one time for a short while and unfortunately it was recommended to not try the street foot in case you don't have a day or two to silently cure the initial "body reactions" in a darkened hotel room /w a decent sanitary situation..., so I had to stick with the safer takes, but it's been just glorious. Maybe almost a tie with India: The USA, or rather all the mexican fast food. Can't tell how much I just love burritos, rolled tacos and what not. We just don't have any of that here.

Funnily enough the only times I ever got sick from food in India was in high end hotels.
Go figure.

The worst service and worst food I’ve ever had out was the USA hands down. But I’m sure you could easily find similar anywhere.

Worst food consistently…Germany…bland and greasy.
But that’s the Cousine.
Sadly they cook international dishes “mild for the child”.
5 star hot is almost picant elsewhere. I started bringing hot sauce going to dinner.
